Took me a while to place her, but I finally figured out that the actress who plays Lady Jessica was an actress in another science fiction franchise, Star Trek, playing the Borg queen in ST: First Contact! I wasn't used to seeing her with hair.

While yes, some of the costume and the look of the series were kind of 'garish,' I still LOVE that SyFy made Children of Dune.

Something this series does that the book fails to do is convey the emotional weight on the characters. You can FEEL the sense of loss Arakis has for Jessica. For a moment she isn't just Bene Gesserit, but just a person.

Great use of background music to reinforce the grief of memory in this scene, particularly for a mother's loss of a son.

What I like the best about this Children of Dune is that no matter your dislike of how Lynch's DUNE may have been too weird in it's portrayal of the saga, it was fairly mystical, dreamscaped and drama operatic in the telling and these two actors chosen for Syfy's sequel as the twins, fit exactly into being Lynch's Paul & Chani's children to the tee, imho. This movie was more adventure realistic while psychic trippy to portray the spice telepathic psycho empath abilities of the Atreides.

I loved the 1984 movie and I loved the 2000 series. I loved the actors and actresses and the stories. This one though I still loved the actors and actresses....though I wish the originals were in it more.....but the story is just SAD and the music was sad and the story maddening. I did not care for the character story lines at all for what happens to Paul, Chani, and others.

Your opinion comes from TLDR the books, DUNE is the prescuror/progenitor of GRRM's ASOIAF/ Game of Thrones as no one pure and showing of leadership and saviors are still weak or make mistakes and hard choices not nice must be made for larger good ERGO this sequel is 'SAD' epic as the DUNE consequences are growing. It's not Black/White good evil hero wins forever Star Wars or perfect future society humanity like Star Trek( Deep Space Nine is the exception best Trek showing reality of self conscious individuals in societies).

www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2018/07/carl-zimmer-she-has-her-mother-s-laugh/561710/ article book review excerpts - "But chimeras are not just oddities. You surely know one. In pregnant women, fetal stem cells can cross the placenta to enter the mother’s bloodstream, where they may persist for years. If Mom gets pregnant again, the stem cells of her firstborn, still circulating in her blood, can cross the placenta in the other direction, commingling with those of the younger sibling. Heredity can thus flow “upstream,” from child to parent-and then over and down to future siblings." Carl Zimmer's new book She Has Her Mother’s Laugh makes the subject of genes and heredity accessible to non-scientists. It covers many subjects, such as royal inbreeding, eugenics, mitochondrial DNA vs. chromosomal DNA, and the weird things that can happen along the way as a new human is constructed. To focus in is to find chromosomes playing all sorts of tricks. Take, for example, chimeras. To the ancient Greeks, the Chimera was a fire-breathing hybrid monster; to a biologist, chimeras are organisms that comprise cells from two different individuals. Ranchers are familiar with one type of chimera, the freemartin, which results when a cow carries opposite-sex twins. Connected by a shared placenta, the fetal calves exchange stem cells. The bull calf grows up into a more or less normal bull, while the heifer-the freemartin-has undeveloped ovaries and exhibits masculinized behavior (and is particularly tasty on the grill). Where does one calf end and the other begin? Zimmer describes a bizarre twist on the free-martin: a girl with different-colored eyes and ambiguous genitals who appeared at a Seattle genetics clinic. Her ovaries proved to have only XX chromosomes-typical female-but her other tissues were mixtures of XX and XY. Further analysis showed that she had started out as opposite-sex twins. But early in development, the two embryos had fused, becoming a single, highly unusual child. Like a verse from the old Ray Stevens novelty song “I’m My Own Grandpa,” this girl was her own twin brother.

If you read all of the post, it has the BOOK's name you can buy. I just posted direct paragraphs from the review article about the book. But if you study embryology and procreation it's been researched the fascinating feedback loops of genes and hormones and bacteria that flows between mother and her babies abd in the womb across the membranes.

@@therealmr.incredible3179 I feel like Denis Villeneuve made Chani "against" Paul because it helps to explain why he isn't the hero of this story to a generalized audience and he was probably worried viewers would think otherwise since that's what happened with Herbert after Dune was first released. As for Messiah, I'm guessing Denis is going to connect Korba's plot to defeat Paul and blame it on Chani to better serve the changes he made in Part Two. But regardless it's going to be difficult tying everything together especially after the changes
