Ghanima remembers the nerve induction test from all three points of view. She has the memories of her father (Paul), her grandmother (Jessica) AND her great grandmother (Reverend Mother Mohiam).
@GiasJulii3 жыл бұрын
Where is it ever said that the old reverend mother is Jessica's mother? I have read (just last month) children of dune and when Jessica speaks of remembering her mother she never says it as RM Mohiam or did I miss that somewhere?
@klyanadkmorr3 жыл бұрын
@@GiasJulii Ugh I forgot that bit of info I kept remembering was from the new Brian Herbert back story on DUNE. So now I reject it. The reason was taking the unstated communication going on between the Rev & Jessica was kinda reserved judgemental but motherly distant to explain the Alia resenting how Jessica continued that parental Bene Geserit aloofness. It's been so long since I read a few of Brian books I've unconsciously incorporated it into the original canon without thinking even as I've been rereading(listening audiobooks) the stories. But I don't pick the movies apart over different points and forget thinking something was book DUNE story when it's changed for the movies. The only 2 I've really recently focused know differences on has been Syfy ChildrenofDune(includes Messiah) & the books so know how things are altered.

I'm willing to accept the "genetic memory" which would bequeath Ghanima Paul's memories of that event, which occurred prior to her own conception. It would be like an extra-powerful form of epigenetic memory, stamped on Paul's cells and passed down. But the events you refer to happened *after* Jessica conceived Paul, and ("granting" that Helen is Jessica's mother) *after* Helen conceived Jessica. Totally different matter, that. How can future events, things which have not even happened, be passed down on the germ cell line? As far as I am concerned, Ghanima's -- or Leto's -- shared memories of "being" Jessica should stop at Jessica's conception of Paul. Their shared memories of "being" Paul should stop at their own conception. Nothing that happened to Jessica or Paul after those points could be carried down genetically. And likewise, for each of their ancestors. I don't remember how Frank Herbert handled that issue; and my very brief foray into Brian's work was quickly terminated.
@evamasters50283 жыл бұрын
I think your analysis of genetic memory is correct. However, Paul and all his ascendants have ability to see past and future, so all these things are accessible to them at a whole another level, arguably more accurate than memory, as it is not limited the one with the memory. I think both this conversation and even more the one with Leto, show how Jessica is unable to understand the twins, she lacks faculties which they have and their cognition and understanding is on a whole another level.
@andrewmelnikov292 Жыл бұрын
@@evamasters5028 I'd also like to add that in Chapterhouse Dune Reverend Mothers were able to "synchronize" memories on physical contact. Of course, the events of the book are a few thousand years into the future from this moment... but those Bene Gesserit are descendants of Ghanima and Farad'n. So maybe - just maybe - this ability first manifested in their generation, and they could absorb Jessica's "fresh" memories.

The Reverend Mother Helen Gaius Mohiam was in fact Jessica's mother, something that Ghanima would likely know at this point.
@klyanadkmorr5 жыл бұрын
I like that it's implied in the way Ghanima looks and acts so compassionate and tender(flower in her hair and gentle caress) to Jessica her Granmother. It not like a grand daughter but more in the memory of a Mother to a daughter as how I saw the scene. She let Jessica know she knows the memories are a danger of subverting her identity personality when she corrected herself 'I REMEMB......I've been told' per her father Paul's gomjabar test.

Apart from saving CGI $ as Hallmark studios & Syfy channel weren't HBO rich, it's in the text or Dune encyclopedia(I've forgotten & some commenter mentioned it in another vid comments) for Bene Gesserit trained like Irulan & Jessica (who was off Arrakis back at Caladan for a decade) spice users in the Empire hid their eyes with contact lenses because they were treated like drug addicts because their eyes were blue, just like samuta users or the stuff mentats took made physical stains tells.

Better direction. As much as I love David Lynch he intentionally directs to get the cheesiest possible performances out of his actors. And the 2000 mini was just bad, bad direction, patchy screenplay, BIZARRE costuming. CoD is one of the rare sequels that completely outstrips it’s predecessor.

Why not? We've been like this for at least that long already. Humanity will always be fearful of the dark and willing to forego freedom for some perceived security. It is up to all of us to create the "Golden Path" that secures freedom for all mankind and not just those who think to rule it with lies and manipulation. That is one of the many lessons of Muad'dib.
