Founders Chris and Debbie Clark often say that Children of the Nations began with a child’s prayer. They took their first trip Sierra Leone in 1995, and their hearts were broken by what they saw. They witnessed the plight of refugees and orphans struggling to survive in destitute circumstances without food or shelter.
They returned to the United States to search for an organization that could help. When their search was unsuccessful, they made a drastic decision. Chris and Debbie answered God’s calling and started their own organization. They founded Children of the Nations with a budget of just $300 dollars.
They joined with partners in Sierra Leone and set out to change the lives of children living in impoverished conditions. As they began working with the children and more of their needs were revealed, Chris and Debbie saw a clear purpose for Children of the Nations. Their mission would not simply be to meet the basic needs of the children, but to raise children who transform nations.
25 years later, that mission continues. Today, Children of the Nations serves more than 5,000 children every day in Sierra Leone, Uganda, Malawi, Dominican Republic, and Haiti!
