Such a great song. I think you’d dig the stuff from their last studio album “Uchu Nippon Setagaya”. It’s got a really cool dreamy, ambient pop style with elements of dub and downtempo. Tons of details to dissect.

"This song is not interested in intensity, it's not interested in really going anywhere. It's quite happy with where it is" Couldn't say it better! That's one of the reason I love this band so much. Fishmans have this ability to create music that feels like it's suspended in time, where the journey is more about the atmosphere and the emotions than the destination. Also I just really love the development of the band. They started with a more straightforward ska/reggae/dub-ish sound in the early 90s, which already carried hints of their signature laidback style. But as the years went on, they evolved into something truly unique, seamlessly blending dream pop and neo-psychedelia into their music. By the time of albums like Long Season, they had crafted a sound that feels otherworldly, like drifting through a dream. You can still hear those foundational ska/reggae influences, but they got wrapped in layers of reverb drenched guitars, deep basslines, and Shinji Sato's ethereal, almost otherworldly vocals. And THAT BASS, holy shit! So rich and deep, it's like it doesn't just carry the rhytmn but to me it serves almost as the foundation of their whole sound. The bassist Yuzuru Kashiwabara is truly a beast! If you’re drawn to that deep, atmospheric vibe, you should definitely check out Polaris, the post-Fishmans band Kashiwabara went on to create. They maintain a lot of that dreamy, atmospheric vibe. The singer of Polaris even shares a similar vocal range to Shinji Sato, that gentle, airy tenor, so their music feels like a natural extension of Fishmans' dream pop phase. And, of course, Kashiwabara's bass remains front and center, giving Polaris that same rich, mesmerizing foundation that made Fishmans so special, at least special to me. 😀

This is a big comfort song for me, though i prefer the "glittering rewinder mix" on the same album. Thanks for your input!
