I love your music/ performance videos. You're my MPC LIVE teacher from the very beginning, I got mine since 2020 through a music grant because of my music therapy approach to record my accoustic music but I am in for so much more with the mpc which I didn't really know when I bought it. I am watching you from Vancouver, hope you check out my kids/ healing music, thank you!

Watching your videos has really helped me up my sample game. Specifically the way you layer and combine samples to really flesh out the vibe. I love my sp404 to death, but the MPC really shines when it comes to pitching, filtering and layering samples. Did you know that you can unlock a HP and BP filter on the MPC500 with a firmware upgrade?

Dope as always! May I ask how you track out from the MPC for mixing? I find the Midi clock sync with Logic to be shaky / imprecise. Or do you mix with an analog mixer?
@sapainca
@sapainca 2 жыл бұрын
I dont think he tracks out. You lose something if you track everything out and midi sync to daw isn't locked on.

Hi, I'm currently looking into purchasing an MPC (partly as a result of your videos)! For a long time producer, but a beginner in the world of MPCs looking to purchase either an MPC1000, MPC Live, or an MPC2000XL, which would you recommend? I would be using it primarily to produce Boombap, Trip-Hop, and House. Thank you for being rad!

What’s up , I’ve been using the 1000 for about a year now ( Been producing for 12 years) but I have to tell you , for the price of $600 you probably could get something better. Obviously get one of you find a deal. I bought this one for $80 on Facebook. Check Facebook. But the eBay prices are ridiculous. Not that it’s a bad sampler , it is very bare bones. Yes you could make beats like this for days , but if you want to incorporate synths and stuff it’s going to take more than the machine. It’s great if you want to sync things up to it , but with my work flow I like there to be some kind of synthesizer engine built in.

Also , be prepared to repair one of the older MPCs. I’m currently learning about desoldering to replace all the buttons on my 1000. Common problem. Also , if you’re interested in the 1000 make sure you get one with the “Pad Upgrade” or you can prepare to do the upgrade yourself.

I swapped an Akai S2000 sampler for a MPC2000XL. I had to change the sensor sheet under the pads so while I was at it I just changed the pads for fat pads too. I also had to put in a compact flash drive to replace the old floppy drive so I spent around £250 in all so if my S2000 was worth about £100 to £150 even though it is pristine condition as it was never used from new then the 2000XL would have cost me £350 to £400. It's great to work on and I'm happy with it.

Given that this is all sample-based, would you able to commercialize it? I don’t know much about sample clearing laws and want to start doing things like this
@babyscare795
@babyscare795 4 жыл бұрын
you would def need permission if you want to commercialize. if you’re not making money off of it, it’s generally okay but the late Mac Miller got sued over it once. you can always get around the law by manipulating the sample. or you can recreate it.
@arisbeats
@arisbeats 3 жыл бұрын
Just dont think about the copyright laws, yet. If you're working with an artist (w/label) most likely the sample will be cleared by the label, not you as a producer.

Can you tell us some way how to cut up the sound of hi-hat in the sample? s that possible ? I mean when you have somebody playing the piano and behind him is drummer, but you want your own tempo... ?

Wait so you program your drums to fit the sample? I've been trying to manipulate my samples to fit my drums. Am I doing it backwards?
@peterpiper0815

Your workflow is not right if it doesn't result in music that you like. If you like your own music, everything is fine. I for myself sometimes start with the drums and sometimes with a nice sample, sometimes with a bassline etc.

Is there any way to make that mpc "smooth" sound in fl studio?
@peterpiper0815
@peterpiper0815 4 жыл бұрын
Most of 'that smooth sound' is comming from a good sample selection. Listen to good old smooth music and you'll make smooth beats :) Oh, and don't overdo, choose samples well and keep it simple.
