Screen shot any sport on TV, and it's very easy to see what the score is. Expecting people to require in-game knowledge to understand how to count something as basic as the score is a weird move. It would be insane for anyone else to adopt that system for that.

@@nastypenguine1318 On this particular aspect? Yeah. There's an entire subject on the topic of data visualization. Its all about identifying how humans can recognize data the fastest. Studying things like if bar charts are better than pie charts (almost always, the answer there is yes, btw.) This scoreboard display would be graded an F. Its good to be creative and try new things. But in the case of the score, which needs to be quickly consumed in an otherwise hectic game? It's too much. Numbers work better, as boring as you might find them. If you wanted to remove any sense of numerical representation, then you could just let one dot equal one point. There's plenty of room on the screen to have 7 dots available. Color coding did not need to be brought into this. The blue side is actually even worse. They do a slightly darker blue on top of a slightly lighter blue to signify 2 vs 1. But in the end, there's a group of people here playing the game for a second time, and they still didn't know how to read the scoreboard. That means you have a bad scoreboard. There's no good reason as to why players need to learn how to adapt in order to read a worse scoreboard. So yeah, just horrific data viz.
