Steam Driven Turbine Chiller Installation at York University Central Utility Building - Keele Campus. www.westernmech...
Finished, the chiller is 5.5 meters high, 3m wide, and 9m long. It weighs over 68 metric tons. It is supported by 60cm thick steel reinforced concrete floor. It efficiently produces cooling for campus by turning waste heat (steam) from co-gen into cooling.
The Chiller balances steam from electricity to co-gens. It provides 10,548 kW of cooling, enough to cool 1,000 average homes.
Watch the time-lapsed video as they move the Steam Condenser Package, Evaporator, Condenser, and Turbine into place.
Installation of a 50cm diameter chilled water pipe that delivers water to/from campus. 452L/s design chilled water (evaporator) flow - in at 10 degrees Celsius, and out at 5 degrees Celsius. 60cm diameter condenser water pipe to/from cooling tower. 536L/s Condenser water flow, in at 29 degrees Celsius and out at 37.7 degrees Celsius. The 15cm steam pip packs a punch, 215 degrees Celsius steam flowing at 3.5kg/sec, 846 kPa. 1 year order to delivery period. 200 installations worldwide, mostly in North America.
Delivered on budget. Over $1 Million incentive funding from IESO saveONenergy Program - the largest single project payout through Toronto Hydro ever. $45 Thousand incentive funding from Enbridge Gas.
