@@AggroSamurai speaking as a musician who has played for over 2 decades, Improvisation IS a skill. It is possible to be an amazing Instrumentalist/singer, but suck at Improvisation, or even can be a solid, but nothing special, kind of Musician (technically speaking), and yet a brilliant improviser, if you train it a lot. Marc does, I have no doubt Erykah uses it in the writing process a lot and Reggie seemed pretty at home with it too. My over arching point, Improvisational ability, is like a muscle, you have to use it/train it to make it strong, and just because you trained all the other muscles around it does not mean you can use that specific muscle (certainly helps a lot though) These 3 not only are adept at improvising, they clearly all vibed together which is something you cannot train, thats just natural

About 15-20 years ago I was apart of a few jazzy noise band projects thick with loopers and literally less than zero percent of people ’got it’ unless they were weird noise artists also.
