you can my dude, just get the game on steam or something. It will be a difference experience, you won't BE a child again, but you will be remembering the memories of it. As I've gotten older, I've noticed that that is as good as it gets :/

After the... Incident called final fantasy 9 and the release of the next Gen consoles shortly after - no wonder it became soooo underrated. Luckily the PC adaptation did a good job on those graphics and fonts.
