Same here, I am 57. My mother allowed me to "hide" my radio under the blankets when I was supposed to be sleeping.

Listened 6/6/2023 while on a 2.5 mile walk. Such a kick hearing them talk about the future, 1998. Many things at play here: friendships, reputations, chasing profits, scholarship, intuition, and history. There! So many hints it will be difficult to add them up to anticipate the finale well before it happens.

I can remember when I was in 3rd grade in 1969 and we were talking about the year 2000, I really thought that was so far away (I guess it really was) and now it is 2020.

Am I hearing the F word at 32:33?
@Germatti13489
@Germatti13489 4 жыл бұрын
I think it is and I actually heard the word very clearly on another program and could not believe it! Because I grew up when you never heard any type of bad word on TV or radio and rarely ever even heard people use curse words unless you were in a rough setting.
@galiffrey1
@galiffrey1 4 жыл бұрын
Wow. I have heard the f word several times in my life, I'm not sheltered. But I was shocked when I heard this considering the time. I was born in 76 and didn't hear this word uttered on public broadcast until the late 90s.

I have my own casette recording of this show from the original airing. He said "Sharkey", not the F-word.
@MrRolloTomasi
@MrRolloTomasi 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like it has been modified or garbled. For a family-focussed program, "Sharkey", would have been appropriate. Unlikely that CBS would have allowed a recorded show to air with foul language. A live performance would be a different situation, e.g., Charles Rocket on SNL....

So the durable tiles used to cover the roof of a house disintegrates immediately when exposed to the oxygen in air....but the delicate pages of a 12 billion year old book survives ? 🤔 Hmmmm

*** SPOILERS!!! ABANDON SURPRISE AND SUSPENSE ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE!!! **** Although the question posed by the conclusion is a compelling one, the required suspension of disbelief doesn't relieve the writer of attention to some details, and there will always be late-day/ Monday morning critics! Perhaps time restrictions precluded such a story review. I have the "benefit" of quarantine! 1. How do John & Sharkey survive in an oxygen deficient environment while running a generator? Little to no fresh air, no SCUBA gear and (possible) CO exhaust usually equal asphyxiation. 2. Did John actually taste the stuff emerging from the sink tap? not a very scientific or even intelligent thing to do. Lends to doubts about his mental state. 3. Sharkey's sandwich bag wasn't vacuum sealed/ airtight or, presumably, clean enough to preserve a scientific sample of the material. 4. Assuming there were running lights in the mine, why not take a camera, as a previous poster noted? Wouldn't that be easier than trying to transport a container with a vacuum seal? 5. In the end, who was wiser, Sharkey the "simple" rig operator, or John, the curious scientist? If we knew what was to come, would we really improve for the sake of humanity or even ourselves? Did John's compulsion to change the future ironically lead to his own destruction? Would we really do better if we knew better?
@riverbilly64

We know what is to come and we’re not improving our destructive ways, anywhere in the world, so there is your answer to that.
