Chimney problem asked in JEE Advanced 2023 was considered a controversial problem by many students and teachers. But this problem is based on a direct concept of Bernoulli’s theorem already studied by almost all students in the chapter of fluid dynamics and it also covers slight mix with gas laws for density calculation. In this video Ashish Arora Sir is explaining the direct solution of the problem along with the concept explanation based on which this question was asked in JEE Advanced 2023.

Sir I think the problem in this question is that H is not negligible as compared to h so if you consider atmospheric pressure at bottom of furnace the height will be 10 and if you consider atmospheric pressure at top of furnace the height will be 9........thus it is giving different velocities. Pls clarify

Teachers who specialise in just 1 subject take 2 days to release the answer key after seeing the paper.... they have freedom to take hours to solve it with relaxed mind and then call the paper easy meanwhile a student has to solve all three subjects with average 1 hour per subject with exam pressure etc and thus it is difficult for us 🙂 Not talking about any specific teacher but every teacher finds the paper easy...they have been teaching since 15-20 years ..this is their forte

Here after IIT GUWAHATI dropped the question. It was only Jayant Nagda Sir who was standing with student as the question was wrong,whereas Ashish Sir and NMS sir saying question was of 60sec and justifying the answer all top physics teacher said that u can't take pressure outside and inside same. I respect Ashish Arora Sir and have followed his 700+ book and was very helpful for advanced My rank in adv. Is under 3k and Ashish Sir book helped me alot. THANK YOU!!

​@@onlystudyjee787 Yes bro but the gas is entering from outside of the container and we know pressure on same horizontal height is same so If you apply Bernoulli's Theorem outside the container we have to use the 1 Metre height we can't neglect it !

mai baar baar wahi soche ja rha hu, chimney ke just neeche Pa, to exact same height par bahar bhi Pa ho? hazam nhi hui baat, H (with density of inside the apparatus) neeche jaake bahar aana chahiye fir H+h (with density of air outside) fir h (with density of inside) neeche aana chahiye.

But the whole point of controversy is that why the pressure inside the furnace will be same as it's height is 1m and chimney height is 9m so its not negligible. And sir totally did not talked about that point and said that assume that pressure will be same ...but why it will remain same . It will change

Bernoulli's formula : There is Datum to be considered as per formula : P1/(Rho. g) + V1^2/(2g) + h1 = P2/(Rho. g) + V2^2/(2g) + h2. What about the value of h1 & h2 of the formula. I see there is a difference of 9m. Please clarify

Hi Sir! Since your entire discussion is based on its correlation with finding efflux velocity, in your way, I would like to point out certain issues. While finding efflux velocity , you took two points A and B ; A just inside the orifice and B just outside it. You applied Bernoulli's theorem. I have two objections to it- 1) You took pressure at A as P₀+δgh which is a condition of hydrostatic equilibrium and here you have a flowing liquid so this isn’t applicable. 2) Took velocity at top of vessel v₁ and the same value at A too, which again is totally incorrect, the streamlines will be much more condensed at A than at top of vessel so velocity will certainly increase.

Bro u have a misconception. Since the Area of container is large the velocity inside the container is quite small so it is assumed as the fluid is at rest. And for your point 2) velocity is taken constant all throughout the vessel as an assumption. Almost every teacher teaches u that. u need to pay attention in your lectures

@@mekohai4458 Please read the comment very carefully, line by line, word by word. The area of container is large and so the velocity of surface is very small. The orifice is very small and when streamlines reach there, the speed becomes very large. The point A is just inside the orifice.

@@physicsgalaxyworld you found efflux for liquid in a container, uska density constant hai so vA=constant. Density constant hone se volume flow rate same ayega har ek cross section me. Exactly yehi keh raha hu, A decrease karegi, v increase kar jayega as streamlines reach from top to a point just inside orifice. Area is constant constant for stream lines. For top surface which is horizontal, streamlines are vertical and when they reach a point just inside orifice, the flow becomes horizontal and cross section vertical which is much smaller than the container’s cross section.

Moreover, the equation of continuity because is derived by conservation of mass, A1V1=A2V2 cant be applied considering change in density. So density also needs to be multiplied

At 12:36 Sir I don’t think you can assume that on the same level the pressure is Pa because density is different. In the question it is given that it enters with the pressure Pa so an extra term of (rho atmospheric)g(H) should be there. H=1m then the answer is 60.8

I failed guys getting 15 marks. I'm a dropper and i had many expectations. Many people were sad that they got 120~ but those were my target marks. I would have been on cloud nine. Yet, I won't be getting IIT . 5 years of dream crushed, life shattered. Crying for 3days now. I hope everyone who got good marks succeed in life and make this country proud. As a general, I don't have any hopes for my future. It looks so dark. Will remain as a simple life this birth. Will be writing BITSAT but no hopes there either. I will be Joining Parul University.

With due respect sir I differ with caption that there is no controversy . There is indeed a controversy , If pressure and temperature is constant over the furnace when the air enters the furnace it's density would change now to sustain convection there is no temperature gradient over this one metre region . Next if 9 m air column outside is relevant then how 1 m air column outside can be ignored . The whole debate is about 1m region and the magical way fluid is flowing against gravity without any gradient in pressure or temperature . It is not an issue who is right and wrong , what matters is the effort to analyse and I maintain that there is indeed a controversy due to marking of same pressure and temperature at two points separated by 1m distance .

Unka answer 47.1 aya but unhone proper concept use kiya. Jaisi ki yahan pe sir ne hydrostatic condition liya bahar me even though air enter kar raha chimney me bahar se toh hydrostatic nahi hoga, toh vinay sir ne hydrostatic nahi maana aur acche se kiya.

That method is not correct... in question it is clearly mentioned that density variation is to be ignored means in chimney velocity of air will remain constant... whereas NMS Sir has solved the question with varying velocity... Watch this video to understand the concept clearly...

No both solutions are different... NMS sir considered velocity variation in chimney whereas in question it is clearly mentioned that density is constant so velocity in chimney cannot change... first watch the video and understand this...

IIT Gauhati has accepted the problem has a PROBLEM so has withdrawn it. The upward flow of air is due to difference in density and not pressure difference. So getting a correct answer doesn't mean this solution is correct.

Totally wrong solution : First see conditions of Bernoulli’s equation. The conditions are :1) Irrotational flow 2) Inviscid region of fluid flow 3) Steady flow 4) Incompressible flow. Here the density is changing that means flow is compressible. So you can not apply Bernoulli’s equation here. This question can only be solved by Unsteady state flow analysis which we study in 2nd yr. of mechanical engineering an even for that sufficient data is not given like adiabatic chimney and all. So this is a totally wrong question. It’s an BONUS mark question.
