A stainless steel pipe is inserted and a chimney extension is put in place and of course the chimney is also caulked, bricked, grouted and plastered. I discussed the procedure with a chimney sweep. The first thing we noticed was that the chimney wall in the house was quite damp. Of course, it can sometimes rain from above chimneys. In this case, however, the reason was that the chimney was partly not grouted. Moisture could penetrate the masonry for years. That's over now and I got Quick-mix grout, which I'm now mixing. Moisten the joints and then you can get started. Down here the rainwater has run behind the sheet metal and the old material can be easily scraped out. I think the grout is now too wet but it doesn't matter. The main thing is that it will be nice and tight afterwards. Now it's starting to rain and I want to use the foils to prevent the mortar from washing out of the joint. It is particularly important down here to ensure that rainwater no longer runs behind the sheet metal. The joint here is so narrow that it is difficult to get the material in. Grouting has already been done here, but all the missing areas also have to be closed. And so everything can harden for one night. The stones can be cleaned wonderfully the next day with an old sponge. The old concrete chimney cover is porous and absorbs moisture and looks like it was made from lean concrete. It comes down completely. I work my way little by little so that nothing falls down uncontrollably. The old stoneware pipe should now be loose. A new chimney extension made of stainless steel is supposed to be on here. So get rid of the old thing. I want to install ventilation grilles here later. To do this, I'll pre-cut the openings, then you can easily pry the rest out. Now we continue inside and you can clearly see that the chimney was once damp. Here I have exposed the two cleaning openings. The fireplace should go on the other side. I chose the left-hand cable as it was better positioned for connecting to the new fireplace in the corner. Now a lot of things have to be pried away so that the single-walled stainless steel parts fit in here. The new cleaning door will later sit much deeper, so make room first. #chimney extension #chimney renovation #stainless steel chimney
