Chinese people in general don’t spend on unnecessary goods. It’s rooted in their culture and thinking. They instead save and invest. Example would be a single person buying multiple houses for investment purpose hoping that its value will increase. Most of economic boom was from exporting that came from cheap manufacturing and building infrastructure even sometimes unnecessarily. The consumption of Chinese people did not contribute to that level as it should in a normal economy to their meteoric rise. Now people are looking towards other countries for manufacturing and everyone knows the housing crisis. So that meteoric rise has significantly slowed. China is experiencing deflation of products meaning there is absolutely no demand from local consumers.
