An 11-storey building was erected in less than 29 hours in Changsha, China, marking a global first. This rapid construction was made possible by the Hunan Yuanda Technology Group's use of stainless steel instead of reinforced concrete. This modular building, often referred to as a 'living building', can reportedly be assembled and disassembled easily, and is built to last a thousand years. The technology combined prefabrication methods with easy site assembly, facilitating faster construction times. Not only is the structure resistant to physical stresses like earthquakes and typhoons, but it also possesses excellent thermal insulation properties. This method of construction greatly reduces carbon emissions and is cost-effective due to large scale material purchasing and increased factory production efficiency. Despite potential skepticism concerning the stability and durability of such structures, this innovation demonstrates China's continuous advancement in the construction industry.

Thanks for this valuable info; China's infrastructure and building technologies are very advanced - a miracle in-itself.

Yuanda and Broad have developed a alternative to the widely adopted reinforced concrete structure. Stainless steel structures are excellent material to attenuation to vibration, oscillation, hurricane and earthquake. Double glazing, curtain walling and external cladding are well suited to this type of prefabrication. MEP and aircon services are easily accommodated. The Continuous Innovation of Broad and Yuanda has to be admired as progressive alternative building solutions to human habitation. Keep the good work going Yuanda and Broad. JiaYu

These are almost like interlocking blocks. Each block would be a structural element transfer vertical load to the foundation. But remodeling would be very limited since all walls are probably considered structural elements.

This looks very exciting. The flats look great. The "proof of the pudding is in the eating". I hope that a few years from now we will hear from the residents, how well they like living in it. I hope the calculations as to how the building stands up to earthquakes are correct, but though I would not wish such an earthquake on anybody, it would be very good to see a building of this construction that had actually been though such a test. In the UK, we have had some very bad experiences with prefabricated, reinforced concrete structures; for example a 22-storey block of flats in London callled "Ronan Point" where a domestic gas explosin blew out a load-bearing wall, of a ground floor flat and all the storeys above it fell into the resulting hole. I think that in addition to some over-optimistic calculations, there were also some issues of corner-cutting and bad workmanship behind the disaster.

They should design a detached version and a row housing version. You should be able to sell that all over Europe, if the politicians let you.

THE QUESTION THAT IS NOT ASKS - A building of this size should attract government licensing and approval not only in China but if the builder wants to build it elsewhere have they collected approval credential certification for building authority elsewhere?

Nothing wrong with the concept itself but implemented into monstorous size of urban setting is not anybody dream. Some people only realize it later as imagination skills are in decline in todays age of IT "thinking for you " 🤔

This is a great innovative building developed by Chinese engineers. This is the method to provide housing shortages in the US for the middle income families. However, the unions must buy into this.

I think it's a literal translation issue. The term for [sci-fi?] technology in Chinese is like a compound word "black+technology". It's like the term black magic in English.

Polysar Canada developed the same modular block buildings in the 70-80s it was a quick build system but like a container home your forced to design inside the dimensions of the block repeadly they couldn't sell it very easily

In Canada, Bayer took over the Polysar Rubber Corporation, based in Toronto, in 1990. The most significant acquisition in the company's history to date... today the company is called Covestro AG. And I couldn't find anything about building houses and certainly no technology that could keep up with the technology the Chinese use today.
