I don't understand. One dam cannot control floods. I live near a much smaller river than the Yangtze, and it has 3 large dams and several small dams to control floods. So why would people think the three gorges dam could have more than minimal impact on flooding, I don't know.

In 2011 because of Tohoku Earthquake Fujinuma dam was collapsed. So this is the self-reflection case to improve earthquake-resistance standards. But except this case, Japan doesn't experience dam collapse over 50 years.(evidence: Dam_failure List of major dam failures by wikipedia) And Al Jazeera reports crisis of Three Gorges Dam crisis if collapse not by earthquake but over rain. I've heard local experts bothering about this dam. So possibly Al Jazeera's reports may reflect their opinions. Anyone who is inconvenient to each country's interests oppose Al Jazeera reports.
