China Grove - Lexington Lab Band

Over 3 decades ago Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons formed one of the most popular California rock bands of the '70s, The Doobie Brothers. They racked up a string of gold and platinum albums in the U.S., along with a number of radio hits like "Listen to the Music," "Black Water," and "China Grove." With the addition of Skunk Baxter and Michael McDonald in the mid seventies the bands sound began to include more jazz and pop and two more platinum albums followed. We are proud to launch Lexington Lab Band with this very first episode that covers what we believe are 4 of their very best songs - two from each era of their remarkable run. the real gem in this song, and very hidden to most, is the bass line. Its what makes the song IMO. You guys have a great bass player...Bass players are overlooked in most instances. It takes talent to play bass...this guy has it!

Excellent cover as usual. Our band played this and other Doobie staples in the 70's (funny they never sounded close to this good). We broke up after somebody broke into our practice hall and stole most of our equipment. Lost a Fender Precision bass and and two amps but luckily always kept the "73 Tele Deluxe and '57 Les Paul with me. Still have them.

This is the best cover I have ever heard of this song! Great job! The ensemble approach where musicians and vocalists, coupled with sound engineers and video production crews are freed from being in competition with each other and allowed to just focus on what they do best in making a music video by doing their part to the best of their ability comes together to create an outstanding performance and video recording. My wife and her dad are from San Jose and the Doobie's got there start there. My Father In Law rode a Harley and hung around with the biker crowd and the Doobie's played for the Hell's Angeles in a few of the bars. I met both Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons about six years ago in San Jose. Patrick rode up to visit my Father In Law who resides in a cabin in the mountains above Oroville California. They were both great guys to talk with. So much talent, just like you. Been under the weather for a while. But changed doctors and got my blood pressure under control and feel better than I have in years. Best to you and the rest of the band. Your friend Bob

I used to run a Club in Dallas Back in the day.. At 7;pm when we opened the doors I would always go up to the DJ booth cause he was always late.. China grove was the first dong I would play to get the employees ready to ROCK! Last song at night closing time Wear-wolfs of London.. Song has many memory's for me!! Thanks again!
