The Polish-Belarusian border is a good example of the Americans' ally. Attacks on the Polish border have been taking place for several years. A Polish soldier was also killed while defending the border. The Americans did not even send a "Note of Protest" or support their ally in any way. Shame on US allied commitments. China is only acting in self defense against the US and it's allies. If the US wasn't trying to contain China, then China would not need to take necessary steps to protect themselves. NATO recently said they may get involved in ASIA. So, China in retaliation decided to hold these drill next to their borders. China is not sitting back anymore, they are on the offensive.

SCS isn't the coast, it's an area in international waters in SEA that mostly doesn't belong to anyone with a small part of it's eastern side belonging to the Philippines. As for Taiwan? At the moment, I don't think China will invade Europe. China finds that the NATO might attack Belarus, and China does not want that to happen. China helps defend Belarus if NATO attacks Belarus. The second goal for this drill is to practice. China thinks in the worst case, the NATO will interfere Taiwan, so China needs to practice how to deal with the NATO weapons. If things go really nasty, China has the right to launch an attack destroying the Europe so that the European countries will quit interfering Taiwan. That's my guess why Chinese troops went to Europe.
