Nuclear advancement, EV, space advancement, green energy, infrastructure, high speed railroad, gdp growth, middle class growth, and most importantly, freedom from fear of gun violence, rarely any homeless people, retail theft or drug problems. A model for other developing countries to follow. Just don't be a conspiracy theorist or drug distributor in China.

China has a billion more people that the U.S. Of course the scale in China will be larger than America. Most U.S infrastructure was built almost a century ago. It’s not just the number of reactors, but the types. We have mostly old nuclear reactors from the 70’s, they have newer and safer gen3 and gen4 reactors, molten salt and even thorium reactors. Ignoring nuclear energy because of public ignorance is one of the biggest missteps of our energy policy. Just look at France, which gets 70% of its electricity from nuclear with much cheaper rates. We have much higher electricity rates and less reliable grid.
@willian_z
@willian_z 2 ай бұрын
Imagine comparing cars from the 70's and EVs today. I know nothing about nuclear plants, but from when the professor is trying to exemplify 4:46 "we are accelerating all kinds of new reactors now" and all he came up was just "Fusion reactor", let me wildly guess, there is not much progress yet, and the 1 reactor in 10 years that he is predicting, would be using old, unsafe gen2 technology (same tech from GE that used to build Fukushima) cuz that's the only way we know how to build now. :)

The basic reason in the retardation of growth and development in USA is that our responsible institutions universities and forums are guiding their learners and students politically more than systematically and academically with no priority to exact and rapid research and development. Political minds have all sorts of corruptions and they cannot define the truth as such.
@qichen85
@qichen85 2 ай бұрын
It's not. The Chinese primary and secondary education has something like 1600 (yes, one thousand and six hundred) credit hour worth of classes on history and politics versus about 40~80 credit in US. To say US education is guided by politics is an open insult to politics. Empty slogans are not politics. If you want someone to understand how certain ideology and political system works, you have to understand how it comes to be, what was the condition that give birth to it, what are some of the past, present and potential future decisions will be made, what is the logic and motivation behind it. To put it bluntly, the Chinese leadership can afford long turn view because both its audience and its talent pool have way more education in political matters than their competitors. It is rather easy to explain to the public on why certain decisions must be made when they can simply pull out a history and says, been there, done that, don't make the mistakes already made by someone else. ---------------------------------------------------- The reality is that detailed education in history, politic and STEM are all very expensive and time consuming. Since Reagan's funding cut in 1980s, the US public education simply don't have ability to turn out qualified students from its primary and secondary education. Hence why you have the phenomenon of massive population foreign students in the graduate level education. The US universities don't hate local Americans by any stretch of imagination, but if you don't have the education, then you are simply not capable of handling advanced post secondary education. ---------------------------------------------------- So make no mistake, this isn't some simple "one decision versus another" difference (which would imply you have a easy solution). This involves hundreds of thousands of decisions made over the course of the past 50 years and it is going to take that much effort if you want to change it.

@@qichen85 all that you have explained, I believe, is meaningful and trustworthy. But I will kindly request you, to dedicate some more moments and some more words for me in order to refine my mind about my question? (I don't need any sort of criticism or analysis, but only your bright opinion about this question). Why are then Americans lagging behind the Chinese in many aspects of life, particularly in modern investments and enhancement--- in USA being more discussions of racism terrorism feminism and all other abstract values---and that in my own opinion would be irrationality to deny the importance of these formal and informal values and norms of modern time for our sustenance and grandeur. (Analyses and statistics evaluated by authentic and reliable sources are witness to the lead of China to USA in this aspect. With the passage of time USA is losing to China. Why, my beloved? Pride hath a fall. & Vanity deceives.
@qichen85
@qichen85 2 ай бұрын
@@SafdarAli-ow4ij The simple answer? It's cheaper. Remember that 1600 credit hour worth of class? It cost money. The teacher needs money to be employed, they need salary to be motivated to keep that kind of long hours. The students need to be motivated with rewards that the lengthy hours are worth it. The textbook, the support material, the various other kind of expenses. All those cost money and since general education for the entire population is mandatory nowadays to provide the necessary qualified work force, much of the primary and secondary education expense is bore by the government. And here is where have the specific issue with US: The specific issue with US is that under Truman, Federal government has been bleeding away assets and income. Much of the Federal assets over the years have been privatized and sold to the highest bidder, so by Reagans' time, both the shortage of income and pressure of cold war has forced US government to make cuts. And Reagan chose to axe the primary and secondary education funding for public schools. Hence why you got US school finishing the day at 2:15PM, where the Chinese are holding classes until 6:00PM. There is nothing mysterious about it, just one nation will to spend the money and have the administrative competence to come up with the money and low corruption so the money is used for education. If you can't do that, then you are getting out-competed.

But the very nature of a unified grid would require a big government to operate. US voters has been voting in smaller government and more privatization since the end of WWII and this is the result you get. And the country that is deploying waaaaaay more solar capacity than anyone else is .... also China. So if they are deploying many times as much solar every year than the US but are ALSO building a bunch of nuclear plants, why would the US think it can rely just on solar in the future.

Solar is always available, but the problem is energy storage. Unless we get more efficient battery tech, solar will always be sidelined over more reliable energy generation like nuclear and hydro

Good point. That is the Chinese perspective too now. Without the competition/rivalry, China would not have built its own Space Station, its own GPS system, Energy tech, infrastructure, she simply had no choice but to push forward hard. It's an existential issue for China's ruling elite, modernise, compete or be soviet-unioned. Thanks US.

Actually, the Russians are currently the biggest exporter of nuclear power technology worldwide.. They export more nuclear plants than any one else today.. Russias Rosatom is so vital to the world that USA is not sanctioning it.. It still buys nuclear fuel from russia

China has already produced a modular design nuclear reactor which can be used in rural areas of developing countries. The modular design makes it easier, safer and cheaper to use nuclear energy to supply electricity at a cheaper price than other form of green energy. China is far ahead in fusion nuclear reactor as she is already able to produce and maintain a temperature of a million degrees Celsius in more than 100 sec continuously. The usa has a big challenge in competing against China in nuclear technology.

We need to stay away from NUCLEAR FISSION, and focus on NUCLEAR FUSION. Then, once we've stabilized our nuclear fusion processes to produce free energy without nuclear waste... we need to fund COLD FUSION studies (like the R&D that Google is working on right now). Cold fusion is the future, and hot fusion is the present. Nuclear fission is the past (hot fission).
