Given PRC's giant trade imbalance with the US, the total amount of the tariffs on US exports will be much less than the total amount of the tariffs on PRC exports. If China's goal is "equivalence", one would think that the dollar/yuan amount of the tariffs would be the same, not the percentages the same. So, why did China not make the tariffs 60% or higher to get actual equivalence? Do they wish to keep the massive imbalance problem semi-hidden? I don't know. Maybe someone does. What I do know is that many Western companies invested in PRC expecting higher returns than they got. The reasons are all over the press in the West. No need to go into those arguments here.

Because the US is no longer as important to China as Trump thinks it is. You can google this: exports to the US accounts for less than 3% of China's GDP. It was only 2.79% in 2023. (The 2024 figure has not come out yet, but it's expected to be around 2.5%.) China is not going to bow down to the US or Trump for that tiny and shrinking percentage of its economy. China has diversified its exports away from the US. The only way for the US to actually hurt China is for Trump to force ASEAN, Africa, Russia, BRICS, and the Global South to cut off trade and STOP trading with China... and that's not gonna happen. China, NOT the US, is now the largest trading partner to MOST of the countries in the world, including almost ALL of the countries in ASEAN, Africa and the Global South. If Trump forces countries to choose between China and the US... almost all of those countries will choose CHINA over the US. (You can actually ask an AI like ChatGPT or Perplexity about it, and they will confirm it.) The only way for Trump to force country to choose the US over China is to threaten to INVADE and use MILITARY FORCE, which the US just did to Panama. But the threat to invade only works when the country is closer to the US than China. If Trump threatens to invade, let say, Indonesia - an ASEAN country that's much closer to China than the US, then China will likely intervene and offer protection. And, IMO, China actually has a good chance of defeating the US when a battle is fought in/near Chinese turfs. (i.e., Indonesia, the biggest ASEAN country, was considering joining BRICS before November; actually, at the time, Indonesia was leaning NOT joining; China and Russia actually REALLY wanted Indonesia to join. Then, Biden invited the Indonesian president to the White House in November. The obvious reason was to dissuade Indonesia from joining BRICS. Biden must have said something that offended the Indonesian President because 1-2 weeks later, Indonesia reversed its previous position and announced that it would join BRICS. China and Russia expedited Indonesia, and Indonesia became a BRICS member in January.)

You pay for the current trade deficit with debt, which is the only way it can be financed. Bet you don't factor that into your calculations though, nor the hollowing out of industry and lack of good paying blue-collar employment, or the weakness that inflicts upon us in terms of national security.

one night i was scrolling, feeling stuck. life felt like it was passing me by, while others seemed to effortlessly attract success. then i kept seeing people mention this ebook, Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane. i didn’t expect much, but after reading it, something shifted. it wasn’t about wishful thinking-it showed me how to align my energy with what i actually wanted. two weeks in, things started falling into place in ways i never imagined.
