China's Aircraft Carrier Fujian Out For Sea Trials, Beijing In Race With US To Be Naval Superpower

China began the sea trial of its third and most advanced aircraft carrier on May 1. Fujian, entirely designed and built domestically, features a full-length, flat flight deck. The Fujian is larger than its predecessors, which will enable it to support a more robust airwing. For the first time in the Chinese navy, the Fujian features an EMALS catapult system that will enable it to launch heavier and larger fixed-wing aircraft. Watch the video to find out more.

China hasn t even started to compete with The US..The Chinese only spends less than 1.7% of their GDP on Defence whereas The US spends more than 3.0% of its GDP with India spending about 2.1%...Imagine if the Chinese defence spending increase to similar levels of the US at 3.0% of its GDP....Then it you know China is really serious on outpacing the US . Currently it is just pacing ..and even at this level its narrowing the military gap day by day.. even if china increased its expenditure to its military it wouldn't even outpace america even if it was higher it still wouldnt, it would only just be outpacing america in spending. america straight up has spent a ton for so many years and that alone makes it able to focus on everything else as well. another note is that chinas spending also heavily depends in many factors. it can either increase spending to fund itss projects or focus on equipping troops with that, they seem to be focusing mostly on research and only buying those specific things really in bulk. the infantry in china are really lacking any real fire power vs its western counterparts with them having much more arms and various weapons that range light to heavy. thats why you see russias military so poorly equipped but having only great equipment in only a few fields. but literally lacking a lot of so many other things. also NATO usually has huge investments amongst its forces providing collaboration and even sharing sometimes. this has exploded research and another reason the west just makes literally a new weapon every few months and are funding hundreds of equipment or weapons.

@@Mearex_ Chinese carrier development is just new so they're doing things steadily and methodically. They don't really need to develop nuclear carriers now because they're not the world police. All of China's current interests are in range and cover of the huge rocket force on the mainland so the Navy is just secondary for China. They just need to be able to fight in their regional waters. They're are going to be testing a thorium nuclear reactor on a container ship soon and once that's successful no doubt they'll stick it in their next carrier and if that happens it would be in effect a leap frog move. Just like how they skipped the whole steam caterpult and straight to EM launch.

Fujian is NO supercarrier. Sure its large but it only has 3 catapults and 2 elevators. NO portside elevator, meaning aircraft will have to travel across the deck to reach the portside catapult, which is time consuming and will also impede the recovery of other aircraft. And only 2 elevators meaning aircraft and munitions will have to line up longer to travel to/from between the hanger and deck. So YES Fujian is slower in terms of sortie rate. It's more comparable to QE class carrier. Also similarly matched in the number of aircrafts both can carry. So in terms of capabilities Fujian sits in-between a small LHA/LHD "lightning carrier" and a supercarrier.

I don't think you have seen carrier operation. the portside elevator is added as an emergency lift. USN actually doesn't need them in standard operation. there is in fact alot of talk about deleting it in future design but for now USN admirals like to have it just incase emergency. and if you think Fujian sortie rate is the same as QE, you are clueless, QE does not have catapult, catapult alone allows triple the sortie rate of the QE. here's some basic fact for you, US supercarrier could at most carry 26 fighter in it hangar, MOST OF THE FIGHTER ARE NEVER IN THE HANGAR TO BEGIN WITH. they would be stored on deck ready for sortie immediately.
