Especially in homogonous cultures where it's less about individuality and more about "what does your neighbor think of you?". South Korea has a similar problem. America goes through wealth flaunting phases too. The 19th to early 20th century were pretty big on that (until the Great Depression), and then the early 2000s were big on "new money vs old money" where the growing appeal of TV stars (think the likes of Paris Hilton, the Kardashians or that My Sweet 16 TV show) caused a rise in wealth flaunting for "new money" celebs. Then 2008 happened and people hated seeing rich people. There's always this rise and fall of flaunting luxury goods depending on the economy.

The fact is that a vast majority of Chinese people are entirely disinterested in watching these shallow manipulations. This is why it always turns into a sales event, for If they were authentic rich that would be a heinously shameful scenario. Imagine you have billions of dollars (or Yuan) and you feel a need to go hawking fake designer goods online, instead of hiring others to do that for you. So then there is the crux of it. These false characters must clearly be the hired help. Furthermore I believe that laws against flaunting wealth are a damn good idea. Why would any society want their impressionable kids to be roped into thinking this vanity makes people better than the rest. So it goes here in the west where the absolute best thing you could ever be is a narcissistic trust fund baby. The term "influencer' needs to be struck from the human language and the "influencers" along with it.

It would just be replaced with "celebrity", again. Which is probably the plan. Never hop on media trends without asking yourself why they suddenly hate something

There is a research about wealthy people and poor people. Wealthy people like to wear uniqlo and keep themselves out of attention, but poor people like to wear luxury products and try to get as much attention as possible.

My dad had rich friends with mansions and boats and nice cars... but just wore a basic pole shirt and some shorts, some shoes they got a good deal on, nothing too fancy to go drinking at their favorite local bar they've been visiting for 40 years... witnessing each other drop off the earth slowly. Now they're all gone.

There is evident disparity between the rich and the poor. Most women who claims to be a socialite are gold diggers or a WANNABE. They are so good in portraying the role, thus, deceiving more people.
