D class can also go up to 250km/h. However the overnight sleeper trains keep the speed “low” at 200 to make the timing more suitable for a full overnight sleep.

Love it. Have taken it with my little family and my 2 years old son. He was so excited, I didn't have to feed him because all the people on the train gave him snacks and drinks 😂 I just worried that he might fall off the train 😂 being so excited running around. I have been on the old trains when I first went to China and they were SO SLOW but the new trains are just fantastic so fast and the new sleeper trains are really comfortable and they are still really cheap compared to the UK. Chinese railway stations are vast 😮 especially in the bigger cities they are bigger than some airports. Absolutely loved the video. The sleeper trains really give you that community feel of train travel in China that’s been around since the early days. It’s actually nice that the sleepers in the new trains very closely resemble the old ones. Altho I grew up in Canada, I come from a long line of railway workers going back to my great grandparents. It’s been so good to see China continue to invest in the railway system which is one of the greatest parts of China modern history 🙏

Nice video man. I love getting around on the HSR, just enjoyed a four day trip from Shenzhen up to Chenzhou in Hunan, about 350km north and two hours on the train. The speed, reliability and long running times open up a lot of possibilities, for example I was able to enjoy a full day in the mountains before dropping my rental car at the shop just next to the HSR station, grabbing a bite to eat, then boarding my train to arrive back to my apartment around midnight, ready to work the next day. This definitely beats the experience available by flying (at least in China, where security can take a while and evening flights are often delayed) and it was extremely affordable as well at about 250 RMB one way. Good to know the sleepers are running. I imagine the ride is smooth enough that I could sleep pretty well on one of those. Looking at the schedule it seems the overnight sleepers are already not just running on Friday and Saturday. They're running every day through the May Day holiday, and it Lola's like Thursday to Monday after that (though with only two weeks visible it's hard to be sure). Happy holiday!

One very unique event most viewers will not notice is that a young Chinese woman felt quite comfortable sharing the same room with men. This remind me of an incident a long time ago as a young student travelling in a sleeper train sharing a room with a young Caucasian woman and a naturalized south asian in a white country in the south. The south asian started harassing the young Caucasian woman soon after the night journey started. I had to intervene to stop this as the lady is obviously not interested. A warning to foreigners thinking of trying this on a Chinese lady in China.....don't try, as you likely will get beaten up...by the lady! Or beaten up by other Chinese men. China today is not like yesterday!

I used to ride these CRH1E sleeper trains. It's certainly comfy - but not perfect. The aluminum alloy body resonates badly when the train speeds through tunnels and so we get some ear sensitivity... It's nonetheless understandable as the CRH1E is among the first Chinese HSTs to enter service; would expect better rolling stocks in the future.

The class characters acturally come from the first letter of the class name's Chinese pinyin. D-class names after Dongche(动车, EMU trains) in Chinese, G-class is Gaosu Dongche(高速动车, High-speed EMU trains), and C-class is Chengji Dongche(城际动车, Short-ranged intercity EMU trains). D-class and C-class typically runs at 200kph~300kph, and G-class trains runs at 300+kph. These combined is the high-speed rail network of China, but there are also legacy rail lines(既有线, similar to zairaisen 在來線 in Japan) whose speed limits are typically below 160kph. Trains running on these lines are categorized as: (no-letter, number only) slow trains, K-class Kuaisu(快速,Express), T-class Tebie Kuaisu(特别快速,Special Exp.) and Z-class Zhida Kuaisu(直达快速,Non-stop Exp.), from slowest to fastest.

D-class trains can also operate on legacy rail lines, they are similar to Mini shinkansen in Japan. Overnight Sleeper EMU trains operate at 250kph, but they acturally have to slow down a little bit in the midnight on purpose, or the train would arrive too early for the passengers to wake up.

I really enjoyed your video FIRST - because many of the Chinese high speed rail system videos show big stations with hardly any passengers and trains which look empty, yours is the opposite- lots of people and full train !! SECOND - I saw NO graffiti and NO litter and the station and Train looked Very well maintained. THIRD - NOBODY told you to stop filming wherever you went, even the people were not overly bothered , even in their personal space. I did not see the overwhelming presence of Police who are supposed to be everywhere, I did not see a single one. FOURTH - You went where you wanted without Fear FIFTH - POLITE People
