There is a very simple reason for all this. The west only invests and help countries that provides economical benefits for them......They have always considered these island nations as uncivilised people with no economic benefit. The west and Australia could have invested in developing these Island nations but they did not have the foresight on future importance of these places. These are SOVERIEGN nations who can decide to accept whoever comes forth to assist in developing their nation for whatever reason. China had the foresight as to the importance of these island nations.

Daniel Sudani initially opposed Solomon Islands diplomatic switch from Republic of Taiwan to PRC. He specifically opposed PRC operating business in Malaita Province. The present leadership in Malaita Province is more open minded and China is being welcomed to operate some development projects in Malaita. Sudani is currently facing court case for inciting upheaval against the National government.

Suidani only represents himself, his few cronies and a us puppet and not representing Solomon Islands. China has been the biggest trading partner for SI long before the switch. Note that US, Australia and nearly all countries recognise Taiwan as part of China except for the few maybe 15 or so countries. I see no issues here for SI to follow UN legal recognition of that. Sogavare and the government did the right thing.

I would love to see the US government coming in to offer alternative and cheaper Internet services to the Solomon Islands than allowing the CCP through the Solomon Islands national government to build 200 Telecommunication Huawei towers on loans. The US embassy currently established in Solomon Islands in recent months should negotiate with the Solomon Islands government for cheaper Internet/Communication services, as well as negotiate with StarLink CEO Elon Musk for coverage of Solomon Islands with StarLink Internet and communication services to replace the 200 Huawei Mobile Towers. I am a Solomon Islander and work in international IT and communication abroad. I have contacts in the current Solomon Islands government and would be willing to discuss with the ministry responsible cheaper for communication.
