I would like to mention one thing to the first(red) console: sometimes they forget to install the screws into the button board, that is why the D-pad sinks into the case like that. Or at least that was the issue with our one that I have bought for my brothers' kids. And I also used a drop of hot glue on each direction, so that it will not go in that much, and register quicker. The other thing that made me sad is that these things don't have headphone jacks, for privacy issues. It did come with a 2nd controller(mini USB) though, so both kids can play on the big tv :)

Does the 3.5mm socket not output audio on the L/R channels? I had thought that simply plugging standard headphones into that jack should provide sound, like our old movie cameras in the late 90s. At one point in time, I think our little portable DVD player with the 5 inch screen had the same output and I used to plug headphones into it. I may be mistaken.

100% agree as someone who did this (still will if I need one price is there) when SPs were cheap just a few years back. What they go for now, even beat up, and what that full body/screen replacement combo kit costs odds are you could come out ahead $5-10+(usd) easily if not more depending. If you're not comfortable or just don't know how, this is perfect with that green SP with the IPS panel.

If you know what to look for (especially these SP’s), they can be pretty easy to spot. The font of the GBA SP on the lens, speaker grill, quality of the shell...little details like that are dead giveaways. The same principle can be applied with other old consoles as well. Retro games were my childhood, don’t let an oversaturated market full of fakes stop you from collecting if you really want to.

To me, the strongest reason to get an original GBA instead of a retro emulation handheld such as the Anbernic RG35XX is that the original GBA has very low specs, only enough to run native GBA games, therefore it lasts more than 10 hours on AA batteries. That kind of optimization is something that got me impressed.

@TanookiSuit

That game runs on the V3D engine, it along with Asterix Obelix were like the final version that pulled off a lot from Driver to like a Gex style third person adventure with the other. Even its first version V-Rally was stunning as it was like having Sega Rally in your pocket(unlike the actual sega rally which was a garbage fire on GBA.) If you find that impressive, try the blue roses engine converted PC game of Wing Commander Prophecy (FMV aside) as it's basically intact.

Fun knockoffs and weird installed games are always a treat with the cheap stuff. I've seen the Gamebox one before years ago. It's not a bad clone but the aspect ratio and lack of backwards compatibility can be a turn off for some. Never seen one in person so can't personally comment. @Arcad3n
@Arcad3n Жыл бұрын
It definitely has that benefit if you play your console outside a lot. The colors are very washed out though. Most people play handheld consoles indoors, which is funny since they’re supposed to be portable consoles, but sometimes it’s just more comfy to play a handheld than a home console on a tv where you have to sit on specific furniture at a good angle to see the tv.
@SianaGearz
@SianaGearz Жыл бұрын
@@Arcad3n I've got around a million things i could play indoors, even a netbook can run something. But when i am outdoors, there just isn't a great alternative to a GBA. The very limited colour gamut is a deliberate design compromise to improve light scavenging, but then GBC and GBA games are designed for it, so it's OK.

You can buy nearly spotless Nintendo DS Lites with authentic high-quality hardware, the ergonomics and screens are better, and they play both the GBA and DS game libraries for $45 each, all day without even trying to search. They are the single most underrated OEM Nintendo console in existence. I have to assume that, like myself, many people who played GBC and GBA games and never owned a DS, just don't know a DS Lite is also a Gameboy advance AGS-101 effectively. I just learned that myself 2 months ago and have bought 20 consoles to stock up on because there's a zero percent chance they'll remain this cheap for much longer.

The result was expected, Made in china doesnt always mean junk... They do make some primo stuff that's top shelf by anyone's stands; but you pay for it. Sure it's cheaper than made elsewhere, but only slightly. My father was an engineer at company that used optics in it's products and Zeiss kept getting more and more expensive and Cosina stopped serving that market, they found a Chinese company that matched the specs and were as consistent, however the per element cost went down only by 25-30% from made in Germany, and was still thousands of dollars per lens.

However after a few years that thing got a little unrealiable. It doesn't always start properly and even seem to hang itself. Super Mario Bros runs on it at PAL speed and the Soundchip doesn't seem to be accurate and it sounds a bit different. I think i paid around 25 Euros or so back then. It also came with an extra cartridge that ONLY works on this thing. It included some more other games that weren't included on the internal memory. It drains the Battery pretty quickly thou.
