In China the standard is to marry young and beautiful right? Clearly most of the time they don't marry for love they marry expectations. So what man in a society like that wants to marry an older woman when the norm is younger? If you are pass the age of 25 and you haven't been scooped up yet you are undesirable, because that means there was something wrong with you in your prime so no men wanted to marry you then. Is that shallow? Yes. Is it wrong? That depends on who you ask. Does that happen in other cultures and societies? Sure does.

"This is a date." More like an interview. I don't understand China, I mean seriously bullying younger women to get married or be called "leftover women," don't you already have a population problem. And that is not the only issue. At least match making is a booming business.
@scottsparkman5628
@scottsparkman5628 10 жыл бұрын
To answer your question about bullying women into marrying: the government and media in China "bully" their women today because, in the past, they bullied their men into exhaustion. Any attempt to bully Chinese men into marrying is met with passive resistance. The men shake their heads -- no thanks -- and make a turn for the exit. Chinese women get bullied and they "take it like a man". They accept the harassment with a open ear and then turn to the dating market. If your a dog trainer with one four-legged friend that refuse to play fetch and another that returns the ball every time, which dog would you say is obedient? Which one would you like more? Systems of government will always prefer an obedient citizen over a dissent one. Thus the Chinese government intentionally bully their women into the marriage market because it has the desired result: the women obey. Worse still, they think it's a privilege over the opposite gender, and behave like the 25 year old in the date-interview: snobbish, entitled, and choosy.

The problem with the population in China is that most of it is aging, and clearly that won’t stop. They need to have a certain inflow of young people going in order to support the country AND the aging population.

Population decrease. There might've been better alternatives in implementing it but anyway. At China's point it doesn't matter if they have a large population, if they notice that their population trend is declining and feel that it will continue to decrease even more the government will mobilize to encourage "baby-making" until it their population trends enter a stable state.

This woman is essentially perfect. She's rich, hardworking, ambitious, successful, smart, and pretty. Nevertheless, people are still telling her not to be too picky. The real message they're trying to convey is that being a woman is already a liability. Being a woman means you're temporary, expendable, disposable. You can never be picky, even if you do everything right. You should be lucky to have any man put up with you at all. That ideology is twisted. Why can't she be picky when every single guy wants someone attractive, even when he hasn't accomplished anything? Screw this biological clock nonsense. You don't have to have kids. Or if you want them and you don't have a man, you can buy sperm. Anyone can have kids. Anyone can get married at 50 or 60 or 80. All these bigots wanna tell us women that we're a depreciating asset, but in reality the market for true love doesn't close until you die

@theluckypoptart2945
@theluckypoptart2945 6 жыл бұрын
Ishika - actually it always was. Marrying for love is a fairly new concept. Many people in the past had arranged marriages. Or just married the person who would work the best. It was more about being a partnership and surviving than it was Romance. Not saying that is right but it is the way it was. Honestly, I do think some of that should be in today's marriages. When you see the person as a partner not just a lover marriages last longer. A very important part of a relationship is for both people to work at making the other happy and their lives easier. If only one is doing it or no one is that's a bad relationship. If the relationship is sole based off love and romance it's less likely to last because eventually all that passion starts being spread out. It's not everyday. You have kids and a house and bills and work. It doesn't really leave time to be super romantic. But that's just real life. I think it's the best part of a relationship.

Calling young women "leftover women" is just a ploy to try to get these woman who feel no pressure to marry the first man that comes along (because of the serious lack of competition) to hurry up and get married. +Pretty Olivia That's a very Western mentality, though. Marriage for love (romantic love, that is) has a divorce rate of roughly 50% - with arranged (not forced) marriages, it's a lot lower, because those relationships are usually build for economic and emotional stability. If those people work together, love can definitely form and grow - maybe not the romantic "love at first sight"-kind of love that we value so much, but the longterm-love of "I always have someone by my side, I'm never alone and I have someone I can go through thick and thin with". Those other 50% (or less) that don't get divorced might be lucky enough to develop the long-term love out of the romantic love, but in terms of statistics, in reality, you don't need romantic love to live a happy and fulfilled life with someone else.

+Mina Fed The Unicorns ♥ omg you sheep. Divorce most because women realize the man they married is ABUSIVE or a complete sociopath. Other times affairs. And then there are other reasons. Divorce is better than staying in an awful marriage. in asia you are threatened to stay. society PRESSURES you. Indoctrinates you from birth to think that them choosing a husband for you is right. Love is the best way. Age morals values all matter. But it is the only way. arranged marriage only works for economic reasons and social status. You are mental. Love grows? no it doesn't. It is sort of like stockholm syndrome. You must love the person they forced you into marrying and nothing else. stats mean nothing until you look at the reasons and meanings behind them. I hate people like you who promote medieval things. Get a reality check

Mina Fed The Unicorns ♥ i get what u mean, but what i meant for love is also not the "love and first sight and butterflies" type. I mean like "i care for you and promise to be stay with you for my entire life". But i don't see arranged marriage as a way to get that kind of love. I'm Chinese and i understand about arranged marriages in our culture around the world. It's still very popular in most parts of Asia. I have to say sadly almost all parents who arranged their child's marriage only think bout money, social status, family relations, physique and basically other stuffs that would benefit the parents and family. Rarely are there Asian parents who actually arrange their child's marriage because the future spouse has similar traits, or might be able to live happily together ect. In my opinion, arranged marriage is wrong. If your child is old enough to get married then he/she is definitely old enough to choose seriously about who they will marry. I have lots of family members who's marriage are arranged and sadly none work. In Asia, divorce happens solely only because cheating is involved. No such thing as "irreconcilable differences", we have to be responsible in our marriage as well (till death do us apart).

How sad that an unmarried woman would be titled as a left-over woman. That has to hurt their self esteem. Maybe part of the reason they are saying that there are 20 million more men in China is because some of the women left China so they wouldn't be titled as a failure and forced to marry for money instead of love. Being married to a tall man with money and a house doesn't guarantee the possibilities that he/she won't be mean, abusive, have affairs with other people, be controlling, or be emotionally absent in his/her marriage.

That was all kinds of stupid. Sperm live for up 72 hours and are then recycled and replenished. There are no aging sperm. They are always fresh, even if the man is in his 80's. The only thing that changes about sperm is how many they can release at once. Only eggs age because the amount that a women will have is determined at her birth. No more are ever made. This a fact whether you like it or not. Women have a sexual expiration date, men don't. That is why men always prefer younger women. Old women have no reproductive value.

You guys all question why women need to find a man who makes more than her. The better question is why does she require a man at all? When a woman gets married, it is society that also expects her to be the one in charge of the house and kids. So either the husband needs to have more money than her so she is stable or take on the responsibilities. Usualoy the 2nd one is non existant so yeah. At these moments, it feels good to be asexual and to not want children.

Her standards are so high. She's a successful entrepreneur and yet she demands her husband make even more than she does while owning a home and being taller than she is. While such men exist in China, good luck trying to find them, let alone one who is single and wants to marry you. And most women prefer a slightly older man too which narrows it even further. I find that White collar women's standards around the world are generally so high, whereas White collar men generally don't give a lick if she's wealthier than he is or owns her own home and doesn't care as much about height either unless she dwarfs him.

High standards is not an issue. Maybe she’s happier to be by herself than being someone less than what she desires. Sharing a life with someone is huge and i think it’s natural to want someone that’s in the same ‘league’ so to speak. Also high achievers tend to have high bars they set for them selves and also expect of their partner. From evolution, females naturally value resources in excess wherever possible and males value beauty in excess if possible. The more beautiful the better. So it works both ways, men and women just value things differently. And sure as a women has higher economical status it may be harder to match from the top because those men on top seek even more and more beauty which they may not find from high achieving women. But that’s okay who says they need to get hitched to live a happy life.

It tends to be true that women have bigger lists for preferences than men do and female preference lists tend to be more like requirements of which few aspects can be compromised wheres male conception of these lists are more like bonuses but not necessary, although of course in both scenarios the one that fits in the most is always more appealing. There was a dating councilor colleague I was talking to a while ago and she also mentioned these typical female preferences a lot of women have: " tall, handsome, makes as much if not more money, committed, driven, confident, charming. " - and often times she would then ask those women if they were looking to find an improved version of themselves. Many were silent. What my personal experience has taught me though is that a person who uses these bland, vague cliché terms is telling me a whole another story. They are telling me that they do not really know who they are themselves and aren't experienced enough to know what they seek in a partner. The reason why that is not a good thing is that they are the very same people who are prone to have very rocky relationships because they haven't even yet figured themselves out.
@aqmohra4

+Jenkkimie I don't know a single guy that has requirements. Preferences yes but not requirements. However, every woman I have met has requirements and if you don't meet one of them then its goodbye. examples being, tall, full head of hair, big dick, financially well off etc. Its also kinda weird how some requirements women have about men, men have zero control over i.e height, hair, penis size. So which sex is the more shallow one again?
@SepherStar
@SepherStar 8 жыл бұрын
Actually men are more likely to have standards that are more difficult to meet, like physical standards, for example, age (which no one can control) and beauty , and less likely to settle. Women tend to have standards that are more obtainable (income, job type) and are more likely to settle. This is why men complain that women both change, and expect them to change after marriage. If he was upset she changed, then he didn't settle, and if she tries to change him, she settled.
@Jenkkimie
@Jenkkimie 8 жыл бұрын
SepherStar For the most part, you are parroting what I just said. Although you do bring up an interesting additional point about settling down, or being settled to. There is this joke I have heard: " A man marries a woman hoping she will not change, and a woman marries a man hoping that he would change. The man doesn't change, and the woman does change. " - While it is intended as a joke, it is also quite an apt description of an unsuccessful relationship I would say.
@Jenkkimie
@Jenkkimie 8 жыл бұрын
aQmohra Sorry that it has been a long time, for some reason your post was flagged as a spam so it did not end up in my mentions. I apologize. I would say that like SepherStar mentioned, men do have requirements as well but they tend to be fewer but more specified, and harder to achieve. For most men for example, retaining that 0,7 hip to waist ratio is preferred with some standard deviation (SD) possible. It is not specific to height or weight, rather it is that ratio with SD present that matters. Studies conducted even on blind males found that they found women with this 0,7 hip to waist ratio as the most preferred. However it is also true that a man will never not date a beautiful lady even if she is employed, doesn't own a house or whatever. Women will reconsider twice their companion even if they are otherwise handsome, and they do so because you have to remember that women bare higher risks getting involved with someone, not like men can. Women have to remember to consider the possibility of getting pregnant, and all the risks that process has, especially should the companion turn out to be irresponsible in some way. So of course it is a lot easier for us men to be rather inconsiderate about the other characteristics of the person we are with, while women can't be as careless about it as we can. This is probably also why women tend to be a bit more anxious and careful with whom they choose to associate with, and are more concerned over their own well being than men are. I am not here to to tell anyone who is right and who is wrong so anyone reading these comments can leave that evaluation up to the individual, I am just here to give description about what is currently observable and known.

Smh. Don't hate on her. Chinese people are like that as a culture. Many women look for slightly (or more) older, rich, and good-looking. But it's mostly the upper class people who are pickier. But she's just the norm. Even ABC's, when they bring home a significant other, expect for them to be heavily scrutinized and questioned by their parents. Job stability , etc. It's normal

This is a different culture, where parents have much more influence over their children's lives. They probably teach their daughters to look for more successful men.

except our standard isn't as high as these women are. The video already says women in China expect a man to make more money than her, own their own homes, and the lady in the video said she expects her man to be 5'9. Get the F outa here! If guys had the same standards as women did, there would definitely be no more dating.

I think it's great that women are pursuing careers they want but this is the kind of pitfall that can happen when one gets too successful. Hearing this woman say she wants a man who makes way more money than her while she's also VERY successful and ahead of the game well, she's entitled to her preference and she has the right to keep looking but I think she's going to have a very tough time if she seriously wants a man because on average, rich, affluent men don't really care about a woman's financial success all that much and care more about looks + personality. I'm not saying that she can't find this man, in this dating atmosphere anything is possible but I think she's in for a bit of bumpy ride.

I see a lot of people talking about women being materialistic. Not all of us are, generalization is not intelligent. Also, notice that this is part of their culture; the women are told to marry high, not for money but for the security of their children. We Americans see everything as a big deal; we've become a sensitive nation. No rich men should not be the only ones with wives, but you can't expect to have a prosperous family with little to no income. Children cost guys, especially in China. Even here in America you see poor families struggle, they have to work to the bone just to make ends meet. Everything they achieve is from hard work. It's not that the rich do not work hard but they have the opportunity to do more than the poor. Read a history book and you'll see that unsuccessful men usually died alone, it's not right but it's reality. Get over yourselves lol.

@tjungblast 00 I've infact heard someone say that. Not everything works according to the western stereotypes. There was this story of a stay at home dad who got frustrated and killed his own baby because he had to look after the baby himself. I wish i was making this up. But it's true 😕. Sadly i don't have a link i can send to you assuming you don't know my language.

Based on this woman's reasoning she may end up as a left over woman that is certain. What she does not understand is the successful men she is looking for are already married, and those that are single will equally be as picky as her.

I understand the unfortunate existence of the biological cloak, but fertility starts taking a dip when you're 35 (for females) and you can still easily get pregnant before 40. After 40 there's a host of problems for women AND men (because even if you can keep making swimmers until you die, they're not a good as they once were!) Calling a young 27 year old women a 'leftover' is ridiculous. We're living longer healthier lives, we don't need to get married so young! I'm Indian, and my grandmothers got married at 18, should I too? Times have changed, and if you take care of yourself, you won't look/feel/act old at 30. Just look up some Korean celebrities if you doubt me. (Before you make assumptions about me, I'm only 22 years old, and I'mma be 22 forever with my healthy habits.)

If you're a career woman tbh there's nothing wrong with the guy raising the kids. My aunt and uncle are super happy and the kids are way closer then if both parents were hyper focused on their careers. She's honestly kind of overly picky and shallow.

Just face the reality. She is not looking to find a lover . She is looking to find the perfect husband resume...someone that she will be proud to present to her family and friends. We have the same problem for the chinese girl who grow up in North America. Usually, girls do better at school and eventualy get better jobs. They have good jobs, good education, well adapt to the western culture and they also want equity on the domestic house keeping works ...the BIG difference with continental chinese girls, the ABC girls wants to find LOVE. I see a lot of ABC girls be in couple with western guys. Western guy are romantic because for them the couple is more important than the family. ..anyways they won,t fall for the Chinese boy raise in ultra patriarchal culture.
