Hi Kirk, thanks for the video. I noticed these days there are so many properganda articles and misinformed news to critise and suggest to ban wet market. In my view, some of the westerners has misunderstand the definition of wet market in some aspects. The market you went to is a typical chinese market, people sell vegi, dry goods, pickling vegi, deli food, seafood and meat. So basically it is a supermarket which is not own by big franchise or tycoon. I do think we should tighten the regulation to ban people who sell those wild animals, but wet market is totally fine. The wet market which you went to is the kind of the market I went with my mum when I was a kid, good memories.

Many "wet markets" exist all over Asia. They are lively and bustling places who support the small local stallholder and businesses! Sometimes they give more value for money than chain supermarkets. In Singapore, supermarket oligopolies exists. They cost more than wet markets. Not sure why he's saying it'll never change and should never change. There are already movements to improve sanitation standards, bring markets indoors, upgrade facilities, keep livestock separate, keep slaughter in its own connected or neighboring facility, further crack down on the wildlife trade which was already in the minority at wet markets, reduce animal cruelty, etc. Of course these things should change. It's just very hard and will take time.

@Shimmy Shai Thank you for the sincere informative reply. I agree. From what I understand, people still overwhelmingly go to wet markets rather than supermarkets for fresh produce and meat, but supermarkets beat them in everything else.

I don’t agree that the market not gonna change, cause in GuangZhou where I lived, the market change a lot, it used to be like the one in the video, but now they ban all the living animal, only farmed and killed meat allowed from few years ago.

Everywhere has wet market in Asia, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, China, etc. Wet market even exists in Italy. I personally go to wet market everyday in Hong Kong. It’s our life style and nothing wrong with it. Please do not get it wrong.
