Fellow Indians obviously don’t know enough about how military industrial complex works in China. PengLiYuan was just a famous singer (she was really good at classic singing, I literally watched her in Chinese new year celebrations every year in my childhood). The artistic performance organization she worked for is funded by the military. People who works in this type of organizations when they get promotion also receive military ranking to show they contribution and seniority. That doesn’t mean the people can command military. This is totally separate divisions. My uncle who is a good doctor works at a military funded hospital. He is ranked as a general now. But he is still a doctor looking after patients. He is definitely well respected. But he doesn’t have any power to give any orders.

They can be street cleaner, business owner, teacher, singer or any occupations. Becoming a member you have to love the country, have done great contribution in your industry, and loved by people around you because you need their votes. lol. Officially, she was part of the PLA’s performing arts troop but the details of her service are not publicly available and her last rank on demobilization was Major General in 2017. So, with all due respect, Peng as a veteran with over three decades of service cannot be said to be unfamiliar with the PLA and she is no stranger to😊 General’s uniform she is pictured in.
