CHINA TRAVEL DAY - UK To Beijing with British Airways

Join us as we travel from the UK to Beijing in China with British Airways.

This is the start of our Epic China trip and we begin it at Manchester Airport with a short internal flight with British Airways to London Heathrow on flight BA 1389 (Airbus A320).
At London Heathrow we get lunch at Wetherspoon's and find out we are going to be delayed, we eventually depart 2.5 hours late on board British Airways flight BA 39 a Boeing 777-300 directly to Beijing Daxing Airport (PKX).
In Beijing we need to submit our fingerprints and go through immigration and passport control.
We then get a taxi to our hotel, the Universal Grand Hotel at Universal Studios Beijing where we will be staying for two nights.

It is about 60 kilometers from Daxing Airport to Universal Studios. I used a taxi app to check. The taxi fare is about 200 yuan, and the expressway fare is about 26 yuan. So it's quite reasonable. Taxis in China are much cheaper than in the UK, so you can trust them to be very safe. There is no tipping culture in China. You only need to add the numbers from the meter and the highway invoice (if you pass through a highway toll station, there are generally no highways within the Fifth Ring Road) to pay. Welcome to China. Visits to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and National Museum require reservations at least one day in advance. The person at the hotel front desk should be able to help you. In case of any emergency, you can always call the police, they are very reliable.

I have been to China. I think you pay extra toll for motor way, you will pay extra fee after <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="600">10:00</a>pm too. If your taxi doesn't go through motor way or is not booked after <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="600">10:00</a>pm, you will just pay a normal taxi rate. Taxi is fairly cheap anyway.

Yes it was quite expensive but worth it to stay at the park. The majority of our hotels for the rest of the trip cost less.

Beijing Universal Studios is still quite far from downtown Beijing. The distance from Beijing Daxing International Airport to Universal Studios is more than 70 kilometers, so the fare of 250 RMB is about the same, which is about three times the distance from Heathrow Airport to the center of London.

There is a direct flight from Manchester to Beijing, operated by Hainan airlines. I usually take this back to China. Seems to be more convenient.

I have had an issue with British Airways in the past but there was no problems with this flight. They were also the cheapest airline at the time as I booked it just as China was opening up again to tourists.

We did this in the Easter school holidays (March/April) yes I checked in two bags but they did not weigh very much. There was no issues with British Airways other than the slight delay.

you mean infrastructure? There is absolutely no comparision. UK has been stagnant over the last few decades and China has come leaps and bounds during the same period. High speed railways for example, how many miles are there in UK? There are hundreds, if not thousands times more in China.

Yes I only used a VPN when I was using hotel Wi-Fi, the rest of the time I did not need to when I was using the Airalo e-sim. I did go to Chengdu for a couple of days and really enjoyed it.

For UK standards, the hotel cost is OK. For China standards, it is outrageous. I heard you have to undergo facial recognition to enter most theme parks in China. That alone will keep me away.
