That is true in a sense, however, everyone who lives in NYC KNOWS there are tons of real jewelry stores in Chinatown; especially on Canal Street. So, it solves two purposes. There’s also a diamond district there just like on 47th Street. You need to upgrade your NY credibility. 😅

Chinatowns are where you get affordable jewelry. I didn't grow up in NYC so I'm not as familiar but in SF that's where I would shop for gold and gemstones. Diamond District might be affordable compared to designer stores but Chinatown is affordable compared to Diamond District. If they aren't making their own stuff in-house, which many aren't, then they are getting their stuff from Asia. US labor is what makes jewelry so expensive because the cost of gold and other raw materials are going to be the same no matter where you go.
