I still remember when New York Chinatown had three Chinese movie theaters, The most notable one, Sun Sing theatre located on East Broadway. That was when Chinese street gangs like the Ghost Shadows and Flying Dragons was prominent in New York City's Chinatown .
@RAZORBLACKRX5 жыл бұрын
I remember when there were 7. Yeah the gangs heydays were the 70s and 80s and they were hard to miss. They always sat and hangout in doorways of couple of building in the heart of CT.

Queens chinatown is twice bigger and has more chinese people and more business, Manhattan Chinatown is only 1.99 km2 (0.768 sq mi). This Chinatown in Queens actually has a larger population than the one in Manhattan. The main part of Flushing Chinatown is centered around the intersection of Kissena Blvd., Main St., and 41st Ave. in Flushing, Queens. This is already the largest NYC Chinatown and is growing at an astronomical rate. This Chinatown, like most Chinatowns is a great place to go to get a feel for the Chinese-American experience. From food to entertainment, Flushing Chinatown is perfect for everyone!

Just FYI, Columbus Park is not the "only park in Chinatown." There's Seward Park and also the park on Grand St.
@denniscallan5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. Yes, the park on Grand Street is Sarah Roosevelt Park which I do show towards the end. Some consider Seward Park to be in the Lower East Side, which Chinatown has expanded into. Seward is the first permanent, municipally built playground in the United States.

I initially went to Doyers St because of its history. Ended up walking around a few blocks and saw nothing but filth on the sidewalks. I even went to this tiny restaurant that is known for its Cantonese-style BBQ. I'm glad I went to Chinatown just so I can cross if off my to-do list while in NYC but it's not a place I'd visit again. I'm not knocking on your video because you did a good job. I'm just saying I wish I could've used that precious few hours visiting other iconic places in NYC.

Fair enough, it is a slightly strange place -- touristic with tacky shops, overcrowded with oppressed immigrants, hard to penetrate for the outsider, yet with hidden treasures. So many changes! I miss the very old days along Canal Street, as a kid, when it was lined up with all manner of hardware and electronic shops, all gone now.
