These cats were laying it down. Scott was knockin holes in the ground with his fantastic riffs, the band just looks at the top of their game. Another great song in a long line of hits for this band. RIP Gary and Phil.

I'd say they were at the top of their game around 78-ish. Live & Dangerous, Robbo & Gorham were a magical pairing. But I get your point 👍

Dec 12 1980 I saw Thin Lizzy at the famous WAREHOUSE in New Orleans on the Chinatown Tour! I always watch live DVD of this version of the band on that day since it's my favorite lineup and albums. They were fantastic the crowd was insane. Phil Lynott was drinking Blue Nun and smoking wacky cigs and Scott had a broken leg! Snowy was playing his gold les paul which I finally got a cheap one myself. Downey of course was killer on drums. It's still my fav concert ever even more than with Moore in 77 opening for Queen. This album was brilliant and Scott and Snowy played some incredible leads and harmonies as they do on this song. I drove by during work and stopped to look in back door and Phil and Scott were there and shocked me by inviting me in to listen to sound check and I got free picks from roadie! I still have them and will never forget it. Thanks Thin Lizzy you still rock!

@@BarbieChaite you know, I've thought about this. It's really weird seeing these bands pretending to play their songs on these old shows. I guess the record company wants them to sell their *actual* recordings, what you see on TV is exactly what you're buying, eliminate any variance from playing it live. I've seen them split the difference and have maybe a live vocal track. It's no wonder they don't do that anymore, it really doesn't work that well. And I'm sure the musicians hated it!

They started the song with the stage black… and Phil in the spotlight, sitting on a wooden stool, wearing a GIANT black sombrero. All you could see of him was his legs and the neck of his bass sticking out. Classic!

Whoa, this is incendiary! I was lucky enough to have seen the boys so many times back in the day, with GARY MOORE at the old Swung Auditorium in San Bernadino, and folks, that shed ROCKED HARD, man, those folks out there were full tilt, all day, every day. I saw Lizzy open for QUEEN at the L. A. Forum in 1977, and my respect for QUEEN is right there as they gave Lizzy great sound and lights, Phil and the lads were smoking, and a lot of bands would've been not so generous to another band of Lizzy's caliber, so it speaks highly of Brian/Freddie and the boys. Thanks again to the MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, you folks are making so MANY of us fans of a certain age so very happy, bringing back great times and great bands, the ONLY thing good about BEING a certain age is the memories of these nights in front of the tube waiting for bands like Lizzy to come on and rock our world! I always wonder about the people close to the stage during those lip-synced/canned performances. While I can imagine if the band is (and they almost certainly are) really picking the strings on the guitars and and Lynott and co. are really singing, the volume of the played recording is so loud they can't hear them as long as the performers are careful. But the drummer is really beating on those drums. Can they hear that? Maybe it makes the song sound better? Or not?

@MrManfly Uumm, watch again closely. There's one point where Philip has his fist in the air yet the bass part is still playing. Happens also when he wipes some sweat from his nose. Also, both solos are spot on, note-for-note. No fluffs or slight deviation from the record. Even the drum sound is exact to the album. Watch the "Jailbreak" or "Don't Believe A Word" performance and listen how the Marshall amps are so loud they're burying the drums! This here? Everything is just too... perfect. I believe this has more to do with The Midnight Special, than the band. It made for quicker change overs between groups. Easy setup and tear down too. This was very late in the run of TMS series. I'm sure Thin Lizzy were not the only ones to suffer this fate. 😢 Despite that, they do put forth an excellent job of 'performing' the song. Probably the most movement I've ever seen out of Snowy, even in actual concert footage!

Yes, they ran into some unfortunate problems. Phil got Hepatitis and they wound up cancelling much of the Jailbreak tour. Then I think it was the following tour (Johnny The Fox) when Robbo got into a bad physical fight with someone and messed his hand up. Gary Moore returned and stayed long enough for The Black Rose album, but he didn’t want to be around the drugs, which was starting to take a toll on the band.

This is the first The Midnight Special performance I've seen where the band is miming. Not that it didn't happen before but I thought the performances on TMS were actually live.

Great song great band. Another haven & jump board for phenomenal guitarists. Snowy White & Scott Gorham ripping it up. This band amazingly had Eric Bell, Brian Robertson, Gary Moore & John Sykes along side Scott Gorham. Phil Lynott was a genius sucks what heroin did to him.

Must have been good timing as I can’t see who is singing backing vocals?
