It’s great how you actually went step by step but not too slowly. I found an old abacus last week and have seen it through the years since I was a small child, and I remembered wondering how it worked but nobody knew. So last night it occurred to me I could look it up so easily. Lots of videos are good, but I really want to teach myself to think with the abacus in mind and this really helps to practice, so thank you.

I like how you mention semiconductors in the introduction, then later while using the abacus you said "clear the register". The abacus does really work like a CPU register.

Just watched a news article. This tool good for the brain. Improves concentration, memory retention, etc, etc. American education system is slow. Love channels like this!

Great. It is very clear how you represent by "clearing and representing by another"

Thanks for the great video. I've been wanting to buy an abacus in order to sharpen my mind. I notice that your abacus is different from the Japanese soroban, which has 4 beads on the lower side. I just subscribed and will be raiding your channel for more videos on the abacus. Thanks again.

I love way you teach the Chinese abacus. It's simpler than the Japanese abacus. I love learning. Thank you

I've always loved abacus, one of my favorite toys. Now, in my later life I'm using a workbook to practice and gain proficiency. It's relaxing, and fun, and others have said it's helps the mind stay fit. I believe it! Also there are beautiful abacus for different purpose, and im a proud owner of a few! Thanks for these videos, they help too!

0:34 Light years is a measure of distance. To say an abacus and a modern device are technologies that seem light years away is an interesting expression that seems to me to be incorrect if taken literally; especially for me with my phone in my hands, resting on the abacus in my lap. I suppose as a metaphor, I’ll give you license to use this vastly hyperbolic expression.

Once you have master the physical abacus, the next advance stage will be mental abacus.

Please check out my channel. I have made over 20 videos on basic math skills - Lessons 1-22 thus far. I plan to continue making videos until I reach my own ability to explain math - somewhere around trig/calculus.

Saludos desde Puerto Rico. Me encanta este abacus, mas que el japonés, pero son muy pocos los videos sobre este ábaco con doble hilera arriba. Me gustaría mucho que explicara cómo se hace la multiplicación y sobre todo las divisiones.

Isn't the japanese abacus more "efficient", without the extra bead in the "heaven" part?

Japanese abacus is "cleaner" for addition. But when multiplication comes in, base 16 has a slight advantage over base 10. For the most part, there's a negligible difference between them in terms of speed of calculation.
