Most of Japanese culture is derived from Chinese culture especially from the Tang dynasty. The reason you said it looked "japanese" is because of the woman's dress, I assume. Because the Tang dynasty Hanfu is one of the Chinese dresses that influenced the Japanese Kimono and the Korean Hanbok.

What bullshit. China does NOT suck. There are a lot of amazing things about Chinese culture, such as the music, the instruments, the drama series, the stories... And if you think China sucks, then Japan can't be any better since it took many things from China, such as the Chinese characters (Hanzi) and other "sucky" ideas. For example, the legendary creature, the Baku, originated in China, but the Japanese made it theirs. Also, the anime that was mentioned, Qin's Moon (秦時明月), was China's first 3D animation series. Since it was the first, the animations weren't all that great at first, but up to Season 3 and 4, the animations greatly improved. I don't remember seeing any anime like it. The animations in Qin's Moon are different than those in Japanese anime, but it's just as good. The storyline is extremely awesome, and the more episodes you watch, the more truths are revealed. Most people just don't freakin' know about its awesomeness because many people don't bother English subbing it, and the few videos that HAD been subbed were deleted by stupid KZbin. Same with Legend of Sword and Fairy (仙劍奇俠傳). A very beautiful and romantic game series that teaches you A LOT about love and life, but not many people play it because it's only available in Chinese. Unlike Final Fantasy, there's no English version, so people in the west can't play it. Besides, it's only sold in China. My brother actually had to ask his friends in China to buy the games for him. I'm not trying to say that Japan sucks and that people should look down on Japan. Japan has a lot of amazing, original ideas that I really love and enjoy. It's just that every country has its goods and not-so-goods (depending on the person) and they shouldn't be judged only by their "undesired" qualities.

@Glykimia True. There's definitely some bias in Western society, even though most of Japanese culture is derived from Chinese culture. I have to admit though, maybe the Japanese, Koreans and Vietnamese are the ones who managed to preserve our ancient Chinese heritage because the Chinese today are mostly influenced by Qing dynasty culture. Some of us even think that the qipao is our traditional dress. It's depressing.

that could be it, you sound like you know quite a bit of Chinese history- def more than me. but in this case, kimono is hanfu- not the other way around. kimono came from hanfu, if I'm not mistaken.

@Kamikuru77 I hope you realized the things that China went through. It had to deal with the Japanese invasion, British trying to smuggle opium into its land, foreigners taking its land, civil wars, lack of reforms, warlordism, etc. The country you see today is a result of all that suffering. But wounds would heal, my friend. China is on the right path to becoming a superpower. If I am not mistaken, it had already surpassed Japan's economy early this year. Faster than expected by analysts.

Yup, and actually the Chinese dress you see today women wearing (Qipao) is actually derived from the Manchu dress when the Manchus ruled China. The Han Chinese dress is ironically the present day kimono ^^

@pruts2 hmmm i read that it's not. from chinahistoryforum: "Koi were introduced to Japan with the invading Chinese""I suppose there could have been an emperor in Japan in AD 200 but IIRC, written records in Japan only started from 6th century to the 8th century." "Claim Number Two: The carp was from King Shoko of Ro". It's still a controversy, but it looks like it's not originally from japan. not even on wikipedia..

The reason China doesn't have a good stance in the entertainment industry, is because it doesn't intend to. Simply as that. China (as in Mainland) rather produces products to sell to the world than have celebrities. Which is why we see fewer Chinese entities in show bussiness.

Hanfu is Kimono? Rly? I thought the palatial clothing during the Tang Dynasty was influenced by Central Asian styles what with the craze sweeping through the upper class at the time.

We,Japanese have never felt Chinese influence.When Tang dynasty ruled China?1000 thousands years ago! W excluded Chinese influence intentionaly.We hated footbinding and eunach, Equality between man and woman is appreciated through history out.Even the first novelist eventually also the first in the world was a female called Lady Purple.She created Japanese literature almost alone.In addition our architecture in 7th cenrury is far better than Chinese and still exists.

99% Japanese tranditional culture are copied from China. 95% Korean history and tranditional culture are stole from China. copied Chinese book and Chinese video (old drama and movie).
@冥进党の呆湾皇民です6 жыл бұрын
If you Japanese has excluded Chinese influence, why you still use Chinese characteristics today? You still wear Kimono which is a copy from Traditional Chinese dressing. There are only four ancient countries in the world could be called civilization: Egypt, Greece, ancient Babylon and China. Others are called culture came from those 4 , for example , Korea, Japan from Chinese civilization. The history of Japanese culture is a history of copy, ancient from East China, modern from the West.

Don't you forget your so-called Lady Purple novel was also written in Chinese ! Poor Japo!
