Need a replacement carb for your old bike/trike/quad and can't get one from the OEM? Then your next option is the Chinese or off-shore supplier for a replacement carb and here is my opinion on that subject.

+1 to everything this guy says. The original Kiehin carburetor on my ATC125 was so far gone that rebuilding it was not possible. Corrosion, bad gaskets, leaked, slide was seized. I found a knock off on Amazon for $17 that was a pretty good copy. I had to swap the carb studs from the original to the knock off and the slide is a composite rather than metal but other than that there was virtually no difference. All controls hooked right up with no modification and it started right up. Now the little 3 wheeler that could runs as good as it's ever run and starts on the first pull. Chinese knock off carburetors are kind of like the Chinese knock off Honda GX 200 engines. (Cough.... Predator... cough cough...) Most of the time they're just as good as the original. I used to think that "cheap Chinese stuff" was junk. Period. Well.... China has upped their game in the quality department.

I see a lot of people saying just rebuild your oem carb. That is by far the best thing you could do. The only problem with that is, if the throttle slide body is worn out, the carb is done. You can clean and replace all the brass you want. It will not run properly. As PowerModz said sometimes these knockoff carbs are your only choice. Just make sure you have them jetted properly to prevent engine damage. I had an oem carb on a RT100. I cleaned it and put new oem jets in. Bike would not run. Put a new knockoff $26 carb in it and it started first kick. Minor air and needle adjustments and the bike ran perfect.

Similar experience with these. Plan to re-jet them right away. I’ve found they ship with pig rich pilot jet size - aka safe mode. I’ve seen them run 5-10 bigger. They never list the jet sizes, so best to look up oem jet sizes of your bike and order real mikuni jets and have them on hand as a starting point. Also agree and highly recommend the ultrasonic cleaner route on your genuine carb prior to resorting to these things, 9 out of 10 times the cleaning has amazing results.

This is a 5 year old comment, but yes, same experience with a Quadrunner 250. Chinese carb came on it from the previous seller, wouldn't idle without throttle, turns out the pilot jet was a size 40- the factory Mikuni spec is 15.

awesome! too cheap to smoke's review of a tillotson copy segued straight into this review. I am really glad to hear you weigh in on this as I bought a Chinese copy of the carb for my 84 honda xl80s and I have been feeling reluctant to try it. I stupidly broke a screw off trying to pull the "make work component" that honda installed over the pilot jet out and I have been stalling on trying to drill out the stupid plug that prevents the owner of said honda from cleaning their own carb with the oem carb. I feel better about trying the knock off as I only need to pull the studs from the oem and screw them into the threads in the copy. thanks for all your awesome vids Louis! 🙂

Original 1998 Honda $600 carb lasted 15 years, normal wear. Has pressed in jets instead of screwed in jets! A new float needle did not fix and the seat would need to be drilled out. Chinese carb (Actually has Japan on it!) $100 in 2013 has been running 7 years. Time will tell. Seen some in 2020 for $35. Can still buy the original Honda in 2020 for $300.

So the name brand carb jets are flow tested. These cheap carbs are not. Some jets are not even numbers. I do the same thing. I use the old jets in the new cheap carb and it work 90 percent of the time. Also i use K&L needles instead of the cheap ones. I have done this probably 300 times since I am the only people repairing these machines in Fargo N.D. I order 100 moped carbs every year and return about 5 out of 10 for poor machine work.

I love my chinese carb but damn it takes forever to start my Quad ! Once it started everything is good ! What sucks is I can't adjust the fuel/air ratio. The screw there has 2 tiny holes instead of a flat screw driver head... The OEM carb even though I replaced every brass part and needle keeps spitting gas in my crankcase unless I shut the fuel valve.

I've purchased 2 Chinese carbs so far. 1 was for a Bayou 220 and the other a Bayou 250. I had to rejet both and they both hesitantly accepted the original carb main jet (They definitely will not rattle loose) I had one issue on the 250 Bayou, which gets more use, where the bowl was overflowing while sitting. I took the carb off and cleaned it out. Looked completely clean so not sure if some gunk got in the needle and seat? It was fine after I reinstalled it. I've just ordered a 3rd Chinese carb (Caltric brand) for a Polaris 500 Sportsman. It has mostly good reviews and I'm hoping it will work right out of the box.

We ordered a carb recently for our 1986 honda 200sx. We had to get a different carb because the cap attached to the throttle cable was too small for the first new carb. The other issue is the barrel will not slide up and down. We had bore out the cylinder some...still no good. By the way, how do you install a throttle cable to a new carb when the metal tube is crimped to the lid as one piece. However, the newest carb we installed and the quad is operational now. It has sat for several years now. We have 3 of these and now 2 of them run. 1 to go. All had the same carburetor slash pet cock issues. Thank you for your video.

They make 2 different ones for the Honda 185/200's and you have to look and ask before you order them. As the China 200 carbs come in a P27 and a P30 both look the same and work the same. And are the same size.. The difference between them is the inside bore size is smaller on the P27 than the P30.. More than likely he ordered the new one and they shipped him the p27 since he said it had a smaller bore size, The p30 uses the same top and slid and jet sizes inside the carb.. A stock 185 likes the p27 better out of the box than a 200. Where as the 200/200x works better with the p30 china carb. And when you order the P30 you can reuse the adjustable top witch is a bonus.. I just use lee do a search for a P30 carb rather than doing one for a blank yr 200 Honda carb..Hope this helps someone else out a bit..

Now the p27 will use a little less fuel than the p30 and I've had good luck with both of them over the yrs.. One of the old men in town was like no just rebuild my stock carb. I don't want no China junk. Never did get the stock 1981 carb right all ways fluiding even after new kits from Honda, the carb body was just wore smooth out... So when he asked me to rebuild the top end I did a new 11:1 Wisco 200x Piston and rings that I had, and a new nos Honda 200x cam, and a new timing chain and chain guides and new China valves and a brand new P30 china carb and he was like O MY GOD this thing runs better than it did when I bought it brand new in 1981 from Honda.. lol If he only know he had a China junk carb on it, an he's been running it for the last 3yrs checking cattle and fences everyday, An that China junk card has never flooded or ran fuel out the overflow since I built it.. The 1981 Honda big red 200e is a beast now.. Electric start, high low, and will ride a wheelie .. Got to love the old Atc's.. It actually surprised me how much the 11:1 200x piston and cam woke that thing up.. lol...

SO I ordered a chinese carb and when I got it installed, noticed that the cap (where the throttle cble and cylinder is inserted) was SMALLER than the replacement cap. So I pulled the throttle cylinder and cable apart and thought I put it back together again properly, but get absolutely no start. The gas line leading into the carb has a in-line filter now which the original one didn't... and I see gas in it. At the bottom of the throttle cable chamber I noticed a small clip. I am wondering if I put this cable assembly back together again properly? does the needle need to be hooked into that clip somehow? When I pull the throttle I hear the cylinder moving up and down inside the carb... Thoughts?

I bought a Chinese carburetor a few years back for $90, it was a piece of junk, the casting was fine, the problem I had was with the rubber on the primer part, it was the kind you push in multiple times (stem, not bulb) the rubber boot on it broke off and couldn't prime anymore, they tried to claim it was user fault, its just crap quality rubber that probably deteriorates when in contact with gas. At least now the Chinese carbs are half the price they were then, but they need to use better plastic's & Rubber, I wouldn't have a problem with them then.. My '95 Bayou's replacement carb would cost me $250 a few years ago, now its $500, China carbs are the only reasonable option now days.

I know this comment is three years old. But it sounds to me like your sucking excess air from another source causing the engine to run lean. I'm a bit surprised know one else chimed in to tell you this. Check your intake gasket/gaskets where the carburetor mounts to. Make sure gaskets are good and bolts are tightened securely. Be careful not to over tighten though. Check that first!! Also, make sure your running the correct size jets in the carb. Many times people assume jets are interchangeable between several different size/year Atc's. But most of the time, that's just not the case, even if the carburetors are identical on the outside.

I know its a very old comment but may help new readers. Check your VALVE CLEARANCES, over time the valves recess themselves into the head which in turn lessens the valve clearances, recently fixed a friends GY6 that was running high upon start then stalling after a few seconds, checked everywhere for air leaks & found none, then it dawned on me that 1 or both valves were not fully closing causing the problem, sure enough upon inspection both valves were staying open, after setting to specs it started and ran great, still going strong as ever.
@markalan4026
@markalan4026 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, make sure you check VALVE CLEARANCE. I was actually gonna suggest MUFFLER BEARINGS. when we type in CAPITAL LETTERS does it mean we're SCREAMING??!! ..Just messin😝 Anyways, I would've suggested checking the valve lash (among several other things) if the original poster had engine stalling problems. He said when he starts his bike the engine "revs up all the way" Having low compression due to valve lash being out of adjustment isn't something I would suspect to make the engine run wide open like that. It's awesome you fixed your friends bike though. I know how satisfying that can be. 👍

Can you run the China carbs on cr85????
@jmabs5096
@jmabs5096 4 жыл бұрын
Nasier M. You can run any carb that fits your specs on your bike.... Most basic mechanical non accerlator pump ( like the one you have on your 85) do the same job, however the Jets and such need to be correct, throttle slide/ body etc need to fit. With enough tweaking you can make it work. However I would recommend just buying a rebuild kit for your OEM carb. I wouldn't recommend buying a China carb for a high end machine. I bought 2 China carbs for a snowblower and lead blower and have worked okay. I like the idea of what the the dude did in the video is taking out OEM parts if they fit in the China carb and bolt it up. The quaulty is NOT 100% oem by a country mile... But for small equipment like my yard tools, the rebuild kits have exceeded the ENTIRE cost of a China carb kit and I won't be bummed if they don't work because really I can swap out parts from the two carbs and run the OEM
