This was a terrific program. Very informative. Congratulations on your book John. I expect laborers who might not be literate payed someone who was literatie to write and send letters back to China, especially if they were sending funds back to their family. If it were possible, if families in China saved the letters from their fathers, that would tell more of their stories. However, probably much is lost in the many internal conflicts in China, the Sino-Japanese Wars, WWII, Civil War between the KMT and Communist China.
