I remember watching performances like this every Chinese New Year in my hometown. They fascinated me but I was a bit scared of them. When they came too close I would hide behind my Dad.

Nothing to be afraid of. They just want to play and if you touch their fur you can have good luck.

Same here. I used to live in singapore and every chinese new year, my local chinese neighbors always performed the lion dance right below our apartments (or what we call HBD flats)

Here some facts about these lion dance The reason the lion dance does this is usually to give luck and also the reason why they called lion dance even the custom doesn’t look like a lion is bc each part of the lion have a meaning that represents luck like A lion has a eye of a Phoenix to symbolize Virtue A lion has a long beard of a Dragon to symbolize Intelligence A lion has a Brodhead of a shell of a tortoise to symbolize Wisdom & Longevity A lion has a sharp teeth of a white Tiger to Symbolize strength & Courage and they dance for 1500 years They was invented in QuangDong China The real Lion dancer always trust each other no matter how hard it is this is a example of Courage Sometime these lion bring people together Ik more but I don’t feel like typing all bc it alot and I watch lion dance for 13 years and im 13 And have a great day

I was wondering that myself, as it seems to be the case on more than one video like this, but looking at the comments, it seems a lot of people were scared of them when they were younger, so if I had to hazard a guess - it might be because they associate it with that? I guess sort of like clowns for some people. I don't find them scary at all - cute if anything, and agree this is great.

Najima Ali was not making a racist comment. you were stereotyping by assuming he was. I think the people that find the need to make comments like that are jealous and think they are superior to others. perhaps they have mommy issues. although, just an example that is stereotyping. does it make you feel uneasy? sorry about that. I'm sure you didn't intend to do that to him. he's right, they are smart. just because he didn't name every group he feels is smart, doesn't mean that he was stereotyping. get a life. I love the first amendment. p.s. not stereotyping. I like all of them but this one fits right now.
