3:37 when all the moms feedback is similar, you know they’re being fair and honest. for eg, one said the noodle wasn’t bursting w flavour and another identified it as lacking soy sauce which i think is what typically gives noodles that burst. they also agreed individually on the texture of the pasta being over cooked/mushy. it’s not necessarily bad feedback, the fairness makes it quite constructive. these moms are my fav. so respectful and fair ps don’t forget the scores are based off personal preference

I like Bobbi and Marie Lee's personalities the most. Sauyee and Bobbi's chow mein looks the best to me, and Marie Lee's reminds me of my aunties noodles, it annoys me when people are whiny about spice lol (i used to hate spicy, but if you try a little bit, and a little bit more and more you can train yourself to get over it/adjust to spicier foods, try it friends)

Why would another person's food enjoyment/displeasure annoy you?
@contentdoll8 ай бұрын
@@Bih1stOfAll i live in a place where the social "norm" is to act like anything that isn't a food you grew up with is DISGUSTING, especially ethnic foods. The people around also have the tendency to rarely even attempt to try anything unfamiliar. This is a shame, cuz there are lovely foods from every culture, and multiple ways most foods can be prepared, and saying you hate something after only trying it one time, one preparation limits you. I often find people around me who seemingly hate spice, only think they do because they hated spice as CHILDREN, and haven't tried it again since their taste buds matured or changed. The lack of flexibility and open-mindedness is what bothers me, not people's actual preferences, cuz if you try it with an open mind, and hate it, that's valid. I love ALL sorts of crazy foods, but hate Deer meat. I still occasionally will sample new preparations though, to give it a chance.

The issue with this series of chinese mums is that 3 of them are Hong Kong Chinese mums either born in UK or raised in UK and one is from mainland China. Mainland Chinese and HK Chinese have very different taste buds. Especially if from cities that can eat quite spicy because HK pallete is not a spicy pallete for most. With this series as well I've noticed that some mums are not actually making Chinese Food like the Japanese salmon fried rice for example. Would've expected Chinese mums to be comparing and making Chinese food and not other cuisines. That's all really
@mysticalworm168Ай бұрын
I feel like Marie Lee is the only actual Chinese mum! The others kind of sound like they were born and raised in other countries. And her noodles look so delicious, exactly the type of food that my mom would make me. I can tell from just the color and all the spices and sauces she listed that her noodles would have the most flavor. A chaomein dish isn't about the vegetables and meat, the most important thing is the noodles!

Bobbi and Marie are so positive and enjoyable to watch. The other 2…Carrie just always looks uncomfortable and like she doesn’t want to be there. Sauyee comes off as downright rude sometimes. I also feel like this is unfairly biased against Marie. Marie seems like she is from northern China, whereas the other 3 seem to be more likely from southern China. These areas have very different palettes, so naturally they are going to find Marie’s food too spicy or vinegary (characteristic of a lot of Northern dishes). Just my opinion.

Most British-born Chinese are from the south of China or Hong Kong. Their flavour profile is completely different from those in the north of China. Northern Chinese cuisine is packed full of flavour and spice which is probably why some of the moms weren’t used to Marie Lee’s noodles. The comment about how her dish didn’t seem “authentic” was weird. Chow mein, aka stir fried noodles, isn’t the name of a single dish - there’s a huge variety and they vary across the region, including outside of China.

Tbh, based on the description of the noodles, those noodles would probably be my favorite personally. Even though they looked plain, I could tell by the caramelized brown color that it was extremely flavorful. And seems like she used black vinegar, which is my favorite condiment paired with soy-based food. I bet if the contestants had better spice tolerance, hers would at least be #2. Simple presentation with a lot of depth. She could boost it by adding scallions and fried shallots.
