Loved the video! I will choose a name that means the same that my mother gave me: "holy". But I will hesitate a lot to change my families names. In Spain you have first your name, then your father last name and finally your mother last name. It's very important your dad and mum last name so I would prefer to adapt them to chinese characters since here both a very important because they tell who you are.

Sounds awesome!! And the Spanish naming culture sounds fascinating. Hopefully, you can find yourself a perfect Chinese name. I can take a look at the name if you need my advice.

你好劉先生👋. I wanted to reach out and ask if 木仙is an acceptable name. 仙 is a character I find inexplicably beautiful and is related to my first name- you see, Samuel is my first name and Samuel is a Saint/Holy figure in the Judeo-Christian tradition and as far as I know “Saint” is the closet word to 仙 (in a Taoist context at least). 木 is merely the Chinese translation of my last name “Boisette” which is French for “wood”. Would love to hear some feedback. As a side note, you’re English is really good despite your accent. I quite like your accent in fact.

Hai what about 孙康富
@LinustheTaiwanese
@LinustheTaiwanese Жыл бұрын
It is a good name with good meanings. 康 is from 健康 meaning "to be healthy" and 富 is from 富有 meaning "to be wealthy." There is only thing I might suggest to change, but it is up to you. 康富 is pronounced identically as 康復 meaning "to recover from an illness" so I would change the character order to 富康 to avoid that. What do you think?

Hi! I just saw your video and found it very interesting. I have been trying to find a good Chinese name for myself for a while now and have found a few that I personally like but do not know if they are acceptable. I am very indecisive so maybe you can help me check a few of these names? I also want to ask my Chinese teacher and a friend for suggestions but I’m afraid that if they say one of them is really good but I don’t like it they will be sad. So it’s better to ask a stranger on the internet 😅 Anyway, first a bit of context about me: I’m a young woman, currently a student and plan to go study in China this fall! I am interested in Chinese culture in general, so it is important to me that my name has a good meaning but it should also be a good, nice sounding name in general and not have any negative connotations 😂 so appropriate in that context. I have also heard that some names are more suitable for an old person and would like to avoid that as well. A few names that I like: 凯琳 or 恺琳 this sounds close to my original name, but I’m unsure if 凯 is more masculine because I have seen it used for men, I like the meaning for 凯, victory, and for 恺 joyful, 琳 beautiful jade is obvious I think ;) 灵熙 or 玲熙 This is my favourite name for pronunciation and it’s easy to say for myself :) I also like writing it ✍️. I saw that 灵 has many different meanings which could be good and bad haha. The ones I like are intelligence, mind, fairy 🧚‍♀️, clever. 玲 “tinkling of jade pieces” on the other hand is very specific but I love the image/pleasant mental sound it provokes and I really like jade. I have read that 熙 is a trending character in names, so may be appropriate for a more youthful name, but I could be wrong. I also like the meanings bright, sunny, prosperous, happy, as that’s what I want to be like and it’s also a nice image in my head :). For 灵熙 I have asked online before if it’s a good name and have received mixed responses 😂 some say it’s a good, fresh name and would even name their daughter that, some that it’s more old-fashioned and rather a name of a character in a book than a real person (why though??), one even said that the elements which the individual characters represent (fire and water apparently?) are not compatible so it might not be so good… I also like the characters 怡 and 瑶 but in no particular combination. Should I really choose a family name as well? If so I like most 孟 and 梅, a little less but also an option 马 or 墨。 Lastly I also would like to know if you always address a person by their full name? So their family and their own name? Or sometimes also just the given name? Is there a difference between two and three character names in that aspect? Sorry for the very long text, almost an essay 😂, I just wanted to give as much information as possible. I would appreciate if you could maybe look over my suggestions and give me some feedback! Thanks ☺️ Edit: Also, if none of them are any good it would be good to know! You can be as ruthless as possible if necessary ❤

Hi Thank you for your message. Here is what I think and the answers towards your questions. Hope that it will help you choose a better name. Both 凯 and 恺 are quite masculine but a lot of Chinese and Taiwanese girls will use 凯 when they rewrite their English names into Chinese so I would probably assume someone with either combination is a girl. If you like these two names and want to be a bit unique, I would suggest 恺琳. 灵熙 sounds like a name that would appear in a martial arts novel or a romance novel while 玲熙 sounds like a name that would appear in a Korean series. Nevertheless, both 灵熙 and 玲熙 are good and nice-sounding names to me. 怡 and 瑶 are also good character. 孟, 梅, 马 and 墨 are the last names that have been used so they are also fine. Basically, any combinations are quite fine as long as they don't have bad meanings by itself or phonetic sounds that lead other bad words. In our culture, we rarely call someone their full names. Last names are mostly used with titles. For example, 刘先生, 王老师, 林医师 and so on. As for how characters for a first name, it is more common to have "two characters" than "one character" than "more than two characters." From my own experience and the history that I learned, only those people who are not from Han ethnicity would use more than two characters for their first names. It seems like I wrote an essay too. I have tried my best to make it short lol Let me know if you have more questions.

@@LinustheTaiwanese Thanks a lot for your help I really appreciate it. I actually like that it’s a bit longer as it offers me more insight into how a certain name would appear to a native speaker! I’m curious though: why would. 玲熙 seem Korean to you if it’s the same pronunciation as 灵熙?🤔

@@calouma5642 Korean people also use Chinese characters or their Korean Chinese characters for their names, and these two characters are quite common, especially 玲. It is not just about the sound, but the character itself.

What do you think of 琳慧 or 慧琳 琳意 or 意琳 I found women who have 琳, pretty and confident (personal view) so it is a name I want to "wear". Huì and Yi make reference to intelligence so why not I am open to actually being given a name from a kind Chinese person wishing well on me. And there are many more beautiful characters like 媛, 善, 碧, 颜 For me the ultimate name would be accented í ī ì
