A Chinese acrobat suffered minor injuries after slipping near the end of a 700-meter tightrope while attempting to walk backwards, blindfolded.

It happened to Karl Wallenda, a world famous German-American high wire artist. On 22 Mar 1978, Wallenda, lost his balance with high winds and an improperly secured wire, when trying to walk between the two towers of the Condado Plaza hotel, ten stories up from the pavement, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Wallenda was pronounced dead after his body arrived at the hospital. This young Chinese acrobat was very lucky to sustain minor injuries. Philip Petit, another high wire acrobat, on 7 Aug 1974 balanced and walked between the two World Trade Center's towers, 1,350 ft above the ground. He did this 8 times while up on the wire that day but was arrested when he finished and stepped off the wire. Some are lucky and some are not.

unbelievable human feats should be documented in such a manner that castrates any hint of doubt. in this case, the failure of the cameraman to follow the subject when he fell down raises a lot of questions. though he fell (luckily on the shallow part), i still gave the stuntman a standing ovation..

U guys are missing the source of the danger here. The problem is not the guy's skills, but the fact that the rope on which he's walking isn't really TIGHT for all practical purposes. See how it's lower in the center--meaning the tension is insufficient for a clean walk. The PROPER and RIGHT way to do this is not to use a rope (too risky) but rather a arch supported metal beam that connects the two ends. The arch must be designed in a way as to maintain stiffness both in the top-down direction as well as sideways. This is a job for structural engineers, not hacks
