I've always liked the SKS as an in-between rifle of the Mosin and AK-47. The bayonet is very similar to the Mosin bayonet. It was a cruciform design with the flat tip. I've used my mosin bayonet as a screwdriver to take the rifle apart. One other feature that separates the SKS from the AK-47 is the SKS is a short-stroke piston recoil design where the AK-47 is a long-stroke piston design.

That's exactly how my original stock looks! I have since replaced it, but I have also kept the original for collecting purposes.

4:59 glass bed, super glue/wood glue with saw dust either one should work fine. it'll not only act as an adhesive but it'll also add structure to support the crack. the sks is probably one of the most well design military rifle that was quickly replaced by the assaults rifle concept. it's def quality.

I would sweat out the stock just to make sure there is no residual oil or cosmoline and used epoxy or acraglass along with fiber glass cloth on the back side of the crack. Good video.

I think the best would be epoxy, something that sets over 24 hours. Wood glue would probably be better but epoxy is generally stronger and it sets longer so it can soak into the wood better

That looks like a well used rifle. I just picked one up in pristine condition including the bore. You read some good information, but you didn't mention that spike bayonet can also be used as a mono-pod or that although the rear site adjust for elevation, that elevation is only accurate _after_ adjusting the front site which adjust for both elevation and windage. Nor did you mention the cleaning kit stored in the stock or the importance of matching serial numbers to the collector on the stock, the magazine the trigger guard, the bolt, the carrier and the dust cover. I realize this was just a quickie review, but the more info the better.

Good review, brother. I've got one, too. Great little deep woods carbine. My son took a couple of deer with it.

My cousins still living in occupied Canada have slowly adopted this as their freedom stick of choice. Sad that the the People's Republic of Trudeau has shrunk those choices. I still worship at the Temple of AR-15 shorty (but confess to cheating with my lifelong love affair of the No4 Mk1). Sadder still, Canadiens are limited to blocked off mags restricted to 5 rounds.

Your SKS is in very poor condition. May be the North Vietnamese used it to much against USA in Vietnam war.
