Chinese Young Hafiz Recites the Qur'an Beautifully

Before a lecture by Sheikh Musa Ma in Shawei Village Masjid in Shadian, China, this young brother recited the Qur'an beautifully.

I've come to realize that one of the reasons that Chinese Muslims are so out of sight and unheard of by Muslims in other parts of the world is that they have not been so corrupted by the evil side of media culture and technologies which tends to make everything a piece of "news" and a wave of instantly gratifying graphic messages. Chinese Muslims as a community still takes the religion as a very serious matter (this is not to say that media-saturated Muslim communities in other societies take the religion lightly, but in a way the seriousness is more prone to attack by the Mcdonaldization of religious elements). Even I, as a Chinese Muslim, sometimes get so amazed and shocked by the hidden talents and accomplishments of Muslims in different corners of my country. Such amazing people and things are not widely-circulated on social media as probably would be in some other societies, and it is intended so. When a Chinese Muslim completes memorization of the whole Qur'an, there is no social media post where he ceremonially repeats "Alhamdulillah" and there are no hundreds of comments that ceremonially repeat "mabruk". No, he thanks Allah in private, thanks his teacher and parents in private, and he moves on to further his studies of the vast knowledge of Islam with an increased sense of responsibility. To many Chinese Muslims, real positive representation of Islam is not a satisfying internet outlook that makes Muslims feel proud for an instant and make non-Muslims feel bewildered for a moment, no, that's too shallow a representation, despite its possible benefits. To them the real honor of Islam and Muslims is not something to be shown purposefully and marketed strategically and celebrated self-assuringly, but is something to be transmitted sustainably, to be felt naturally, and to be established through cross-generational virtue. Perhaps that is why, despite the fact that they are so unheard of, they survived. Many dynasties have come and go in this powerful civilization, but Chinese Muslims are still here, still vigorous and fresh. Perhaps this is a kind of strength we need to learn - the strength of silence, the strength of being out of sight, the strength of continuous progress without celebrations and praise and compliments. Respect to all the amazing Qaris who don't have KZbin channels, all the amazing scholars and teachers who don't have Podcast series, all the amazing contributors to the deen who don't have a Facebook page, all the amazing Muslims who don't have an internet presence (and no disrespect at all to those who do).
