Saw some people asking for an English translation of the lyrics so I have done a rough translation. I have to say though, that the Chinese lyrics are a bit like poetry so they are not the easiest to understand, especially if you have not read the novel that the song is based on. There are references to places, characters and plot points in the book. The book 二哈和他的白猫师尊 is often translated as Dumb Husky and His White Cat Shizun and the plot is about the relationship between a master and his disciple in a historical fantasy world. The lyrics switch between describing the master Chu Wanning and his disciple Mo Ran. @@shiroh3581 Realise I didn't translate the song title. 海棠--记燃晚 The Begonia - An Ode to RanWan (RanWan = A portmanteau of Mo Ran and Chu Wanning) *For anyone who hasn't read the novel but is trying to make sense of the translated lyrics I posted above, mentions of youth / bitterness and hate / sins are references to Mo Ran, mentions of Red Lotus Pavilion / begonia / constellation are references to Chu Wanning.

This is a rework of the previous translation. I tweaked the translation for many of the lines and, whenever appropriate, changed the translation from third-person to first-person. Previously, I rendered the entire translation in third-person because I wanted to frame the affection as the usual respect a disciple would have for his teacher and thus avoid stepping on a topic that is taboo in China. In this rework, translation was rendered from the points of views of the two main character and in fisrt-person as well -- whenever approrpiate.) 歌名：海棠 Song title: Begonia 歌词（Lyrics）: 那年长风烈 少年折枝生心结 That year, gusty wind howled. The teenage boy picked a flower and presented it to the master. A heart knot was formed. 八苦长恨 蛊深难解 The poisonous magic of “eight sufferings and perpetual hate” was deep and difficult to resolve. 入红莲水榭 可有故人残影曳 Entering the red pavilion by the lake, I could no longer find a trace of the person I used to know so well. 头顶一方 海棠结界 Above my head was the begonia force field. __ 死生之巅 三千长阶 谁人未干的血 Death and Life Summit.
