Chinook Salmon Fishing on the Lower Columbia

We had a fun day on the water. We ended up with 3 chrome chinook and we lost 2 on the day. We even released a native Coho. Overall great day and we were one of the blessed boats to come back with fish.

A stupid question. Where is lower Columbia river? We fish the buoy 10 so is it anything between Bonneville dam to tongue point?

weird that everybody reels in when a fish is on. It means the boat isn't fishing for a period before you get moving again. I've had plenty of hits with the boat just stationary and the lures still at depth.

Nice video real clear and colorful! Hey what length of rods do you use for trolling? And curious how many hours did you guys fish and from what time to what time?

We use 10’ 6” length rods. We typically fish for at least 8 hours. Only less if we limit down before otherwise we stay out until we get limits or it’s 4pm. We get to the dock around 5am.

I caught one with the lure dangling on the rod at the surface once. It was over 10 yrs ago so I don't remember exactly what was going on, but the rod was leaning on the gunnel and we were doing somehting else. The rod started twitching around. I thought it was slipping, about to fall over so i grabbed it to find a hooked coho.

that's the tip of the day if you get on a charter, especially if you're on anchor targeting bottom fish. As the fish follow the scent trail, the stern lines are the first ones the fish will reach. It's no guarantee, but it's definitely a thing....
