Why was Ska seized upon? Young people were ready & waiting for it. They were fed-up and bored of the posed disaffected/bored postures of Punk and sick of the hardcore hatred of the National Front skinheads - because one of the best, most infectious characteristics of youth, is the sheer power of innocent enthusiasm. Ska was great to be a part of. It came just at the right moment as that beast Thatcher began readying herself to tear up our great nation. By announcing the non-existence of society, she was effectively disrespecting communities and in particular, the youth contingent who benefit greatly from a cohesive society and the young people of that time knew it. They were not stupid, whatever Thatcher thought.
