Wow you got a great deal on this thing for $200! I just bought one (#70050) for $150 and the parts bill is at $290 so far.. Those bearings are $40 each. Both of mine were completely shot. And those hanging knives on yours look a bit rounded on the outside edge. Mine were so worn that over 50% of the entire knife material was gone ($115). The two chipper blades were completely rounded with about 25% of their material gone. Also the drive pulley was broken where someone tried to beat it off the shaft. Another $40 part! BTW Bearcat wants over $40 for each chipper blade but you can get a Pair from Baileys (not OE) for half that price. Great job on your videos. Good luck on the repairs!

That sounds like a lot of work for a chipper. You sound very handy! Did you find the bearings installed in the race? I could only find the bearing separate and I had to have them pressed in which didn't go as well as I would have liked.

You chipper looks very similar to mine but your bearings look different. I'm thinking your model 50 is an older version of my 70050 (which is now called 3206). My bearings have a grease fitting so I decided to just go with factory replacements, Bearcat 16234B. And yes, I stood around for a good 20 minutes debating if I wanted to invest $300+ into this thing. It will probably be worth $400 rebuilt but I'll have more than that in it. However, I am planning to convert this to a PTO chipper so no plans to sell it. I just uploaded a video a couple of days ago that shows the bearing design. You'll get a laugh out of the wear on the chipper blades I'm sure!

I look forward to updates on your chipper rebuild. I'm at the point you were when I need to decide how much I want to put into this. It looks like the newer models parts will fit the older model I just don't know if I want to take that risk.

If you remove the bearing block does it have square cut holes for carriage bolts? I can measure the spacing on my bolts and the shaft diameter if you want.

First half is great,The emery clpth can be wet & still work, unlike sandpaper which will fall apart. You had emery cloth that comes in 40 grit up to 1000 grit.

how do you adjust the gap between the chipper blade and the anvil? thanks!

I would have replaced the whole housing including the bearing for a heavier duty type. Plenty of equivalent types out there.

put some blue medium strength lock tight on those bolts. It will keep those bolts from loosing up again.

that shaft looks worn. probably what caused the excessive play that broke the bolt in the first place. if that's not replaced you're probably just setting it up to fail again in the future.

the bearing lookes like it has a chip in the top, of so the locking colar we not hold.

I thought that piece missing on the bearing was supposed to be missing. That would explain a lot if that gap isn't supposed to be there.
