I see you are wetting the knot before tightening with taking it into your mouth. Often you have to extend your tippet after the leader was already in the water. With all the dairy cattle left and right of our NZ rivers, we often have Giardia & or E-coli in the waterways. I got sick once. Since then I spit on my index finger and wet the knot this way.
