Get ready with me while we chat about the truth about motherhood. I think it's important to talk about how to balance motherhood especially for moms over 35. After 17 months into my own motherhood journey, I want to share what I've been going through in motherhood 1 year later...

You said it, pouring from an empty vessel is difficult. It's important to take care of yourself because you can't show up as your best self to others. I can't wait to see this new lock journey.

Girl yes!!! Experiencing this right now especially the concerns with not having a village ..everything is centered around the children. Just when I was about to see the light when my first child 4 and then I got pregnant again so the the cycle of not being myself stared over again! What helps me is I work out, and tell myself God give me strength and let the next few years go by fast lol.

Thank you so much for this video! My first child is 20 months and girllll i'm tired, overwhelmed, all the things. And the worst part is as you mentioned, having no immediate village and feeling guilty that i'm even complaining! I'm 42 and feel blessed I was even able to get pregnant, give birth and that we're all healthy. But between the breastfeeding, lack of sleep, lack of social life, lack of alone time etc. this has taken a big hit on me psychologically & emotionally. Many times I feel almost like a prisoner and miss the freedom of my old life (I'm so ashamed to say this!!!). And I do feel lonely at times - even with some of my girlfriends bc their kids are older so I feel like they may have forgotten what it was like to have a newborn! Anyway, even though its still a struggle, I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel when my son turned one. My boyfriend and I agreed that I would breastfeed him for one year. After that, we allowed him to have more formula (we also considered plant milk( so that lessened the burden on me and my BF was able to pick up more of the slack with feedings. My son also started eating more solids which lessened my obligation to nurse, but it also helped him sleep longer at night which gave me a break as well. I do feel like as time passes and he gets older things get a smidge easier so there's my hope. I still don't feel as free as I did before I had my son, but here and there I do get breaks to hang with my girlfriends or get the apt to myself. Last mother's day I took myself out on a long walk to a solo brunch and it was lovely. I'm looking forward to the same thing this year LOL. Hang in there, you're not alone!!

It's challenging. I don't have kids I do work in early childhood and it is challenging. Also from friends mention similarities you've mentioned. Do the best you can, one day at a time ❤.

This what I keep saying...yes it's a blessing to have children, but as mothers we are still human and we have emotions and things can get overwhelming; especially when you add your own personal emotions to the mix whether that be from achieving your own goals or issues in relationships etc. Sometimes we daydream about the days when we were childless or even child free. But yes ma'am us mothers often have that simple wish for our birthdays. I have desired that "gift" of COMPLETE ALONE TIME - no husband and no children. Even last night I laid in the bed alone...no husband or children and I was like, "Only if I could have this for one night..." then boom, my son walks in the room 😂😂😂 Girl, you can jump in my dms and we can exchange "war stories" cause sometimes I wanna vent without being judged 😂😂😂 and I'm a mother of 5...thank God my oldest is technically an adult, but the other 4 are still in the single digits. But the light at the end of the tunnel never really comes lol but it gets easier when they're a bit more independent around like 3 years old and upwards

Take it one moment at a time. The journey is not going to be easy, there is no light at the end of the tunnel, because new challenges present themself as baby girl develops into a toddler…into a child…into a pre-teen, etc. focus on what sensations you appreciate in order to indulge in small breaks - until you get to that hotel stay you mentioned. Take a couple extra minutes to moisturize your skin, give yourself aromatherapy in the bathroom. There’s not going to be a perfect time so snatch those moments when you can.

Hey Jasmine, beautiful GRWM. I agree anytime you’re not feeling like yourself get back to doing things that fill your cup… time to your self no matter how much time is important. I am not a mother but I work with other people’s kids all day and while I love working with them I need a break and many of the parents whose kids I serve feel the same way. It’s normal and it doesn’t take away from the fact that you are grateful and that you love your baby girl. ❤

I have no kids but ive heard this a lot from my sisters. I commend all mothers especially stay at home type. I felt i was doing everything for my family job and husband and not myself. The key was forcing weekly periods of complete alone time and making it clear what i needed 2 thrive. I cut out overtime at wrk. Made our spare room into MY room. I can close the door and be alone for an hr or 2 multiple times a week. We r not robots. U r doing a great job and ur feelings r valid.

Jasmine... I believe you, but I smile.... the minute you get your wish, wherever, whenever you get it... Trust. You will feel SO lost, like, what do I do with my freedom., what do I do with my time. Your brain won't kick into gear like pre baby girl. How you feel is normal, but you dont realise it in the moment that when it boils down to it, you will just want everything that you have right now.❤

My kids are 8 and 10 and I cry daily! I have no village and when they are at school I’m at work so I get NO break. They are starting to talk back and are highly influenced by friends at school. I thought when they got older it would get easier but it’s actually 10x harder for me. I miss the baby stage. I’m always looking for it to get easier but it actually gets harder, just on a different level. But I’m so thankful and grateful but that ish is hard DAILY!!!!!!!!!!!!

We in the trenches for real but at least we in it together 😊 maybe play hookie every now and again from work and do a spa day or something that makes you happy ❤ I’m rooting for you sis!

@@JasmineRose Yes I plan to start working only 3-4 days a week, even though I can’t afford that living in Brooklyn but I will try. I need that time lol…. You got this! We are in this together! We can’t really complain to other people because they will start looking at us sideways, so having an unbiased tribe is important. I hope that it gets easier for you. Every situation and family is different. My marriage of 10 years ended this year-it was just so much stress plus other stuff on top of that. So my ex spouse did not want to deal with the stress and left and started blaming it on everything else. He would be crying too when raising the kids. We use to always say “I’m sorry” to each other because raising kids was just ALOT! I don’t remember it being like this for our parents back in the day lol… this is such a different time. The good thing about when they get older is that you can sleep-but they wake up everyone at night when they have a bad dream or when they are scared of the dark lol… and it hurts when they start preferring the other parent over the other, especially girls.

First what I will say as long time viewer of your content . Please give yourself grace . Second I had to learn if I’m empty I was a terrible mom I had to endure I came before everybody yes even the baby than things started looking up . Every stage your child goes through being different challenges . My child is no longer a baby she is young adult and let me tell you … you never sleep the same again and what you’re feeling doesn’t change until you stop putting yourself last. I empathize with you and I also encourage you to create what you don’t see. I never joined mommy groups back then because a lot of moms were keeping it real of the ugly side of motherhood and I couldn’t relate to my child was my world and motherhood was sunshine and rainbows. Create that mommy group because it definitely is needed. Also being a mom doesn’t mean you dissociate with who you were before I always say I’m in individual who became a mom. My whole identity is not just mom. Yes be grateful but your human and it’s okay to vent.

I'm a nanny and sometimes I look at and wonder how my grandmother did it with 8 kids if one child (1 or 2yrs old) can drain you before the day end. I think it is ok look back in the past. just don't live there. What? That is a lot to pay to get locs done these days.I refuse to go into a salon to get my hair done. I do mine on my own.
