I was almost reduced to tears.... thank you for so lovingly spending the time to share your collection and how you came to be their wonderful custodian. I never got the chance to sit and listen to either of my grandmother's as a child. One lived over seas and the other lived inside herself for 17 years with alheimers . I had been listening in the background while doing something else and roughly about 3 minutes in I knew I wanted to hurry up and sit down so I could start the video again and give you my full attention. Please don't stop doing these.... when you know the void of not having a granny to chit chat with.... it's impossible to get tired of your sweet storytelling. My 88 year old Mother has her bridal registry Fostoria American proudly displayed in her China cabinet. She has left it to me when she passes and I will treasure it always. Thank you for this video. Enjoyed every minute of it.

Don’t for one minute be sad about children selling their parents crystal and glass collections. I love them and buy them any time I see them. My mother only had a few pieces of Fenton milk glass. I have a large collection of crystal bowls and covered candy dishes. I cherish every piece I buy and often think of the fine ladies who first owned the pieces. I’m taking good care of them for them in their honor. ❤

Oh, Granny Pat, I could spend hours and hours admiring and handling your dishes, especially the Fostoria American! My mother, born in 1909, grew up very poor in the Dust Bowl of Oklahoma. I have no idea how she ever achieved a lovely collection of Fostoria! She even had a punch bowl! I am so thankful for every piece. I don’t have daughters, and my granddaughters have no interest in “dust collectors.” Someone, one day, may love my treasures.

I agree with you that the younger generation doesn't want our glass and crystal collections. Some of mine came from Ireland when I visited the Waterford factory. It makes me sad, too. You have a beautiful collection. Love that fostoria footed cake plate.

I so enjoyed your video on Fostoria American. I recently inherited a huge collection from my mom. All of it was my grandma's. When I last did research, it was worth quite alot. Of course you have to have someone willing to pay that! But I treasure it all and will pass it down to my girls. I am one who still loves all the vintage China and glassware our grandma's, aunts and mothers had. I appreciated learning about your collection and especially the comparisons to Whitehall.

My Grandma started my collection of Fostoria American when I was about 19. I’m 66 and been collection for many years. Kids today aren’t interested in crystal, Fostoria or China. They don’t want/have China hutches or curio cabinets, I just don’t understand it. I am so very thankful to have my collection, I wish you lived close to me and we could visit and talk Fostoria. OMGOSH I am SO EXCITED your video came across my feed!! I'm 48 but have collected all things vintage since a child. I grew up with older parents & my dad was a collector. We have not only my parents beauties but my grandmother's, aunt's, mother inlaw's, great aunt's, great grandmother & many others treasures. Recently we were reorganizing our garage so we could locate the china my aunt gifted my parent's over 40 years ago & I finally have both of my china cabinets full of all the different pieces from both sides of the family & I spend many Saturdays looking them over, I've researched several of them, I'd never sell them because they mean to much to me personally. I'm sure one day my daughter might sell most of it but for now they give me such pleasure!! My mother is 87 and lives with us and we constantly talk about the good times and memories and I could sit down with you for hours talking about all the pretty glassware, china, the orange bowl was very interesting as I've never seen one before... you are a treasure and I'm so glad I found your channel!!! ❤❤

Children and grandchildren nowadays do not have the love of the collections their grandmother or mother had, but I tell you; I would give anything to have had the chance for some of the things my grandmother had. I love that you have a big heart because I do. You have done an amazing thing with those pieces no matter who they belonged to at one time. I'm 43 and I was blessed to have been taught by my Grannies and Mom to love and appreciate the art of hosting meals using pretty glassware. Some people love seeing my pieces in use and others feel intimidated. I was raised enjoying beautifully arranged tables in dining rooms filled with items collected for 3 generations. There is something just special about the right lighting and the glassware with food.

Granny Pat, you remind me of my grandmother from NC. My other grandmother had Fostoria American in her china closet. I have a pitcher she had and started collecting it and put it in my corner cupboard and suddenly remembered the noise the stacked plates made when I walked by was the same noise they made at Granny's. They have ground bottoms and wobble a bit (don't we all). Your video was very entertaining and informative. One other thing--I use a dark green tablecloth to bring out the pattern in Fostoria American. And a white background in my corner cupboard so the crystal doesn't disappear.

Thank you Granny Pat! I’ve had the hardest time trying to remember the differences and to distinguish Fostoria from Whitehall. I liked when you called it a copycat! And you are also correct in that it doesn’t hurt to have a few pieces of Whitehall. Thank you for a very informative and enjoyable video! We can only hope that some of the great glass, crystal, china, pottery will continue to be appreciated for generations to come. It just dawned on me when you said "Serving bowls", that your table can be so much more lovely with pieces like this. Two of my grandmothers used Fostoria American on their tables. I knew their tables were beautiful when I sat down with family to eat, but it never dawned on me that it was the serving pieces that brightened up the table. You gals are wonderful that have kept this tradition going. I am sure going to have something specific to look for when I thrift shop now. I can just see the sweet tea with lemon in the serving pitchers. I remember cracking mine when the tea was just a little too warm. These pieces make me happy!! The three cornered bowl is gorgeous served with fruits, red strawberries/blue berries, etc. wish I could show my Christmas table using Fostoria serving pieces. The 14 - 16” round platter (it holds a lot) displayed a variety of desserts-pumpkin roll/varied cheesecakes/brownies, etc. and the ladies loved my stuffed dates. The ladies loved my colorful table. Don’t get me started! I am in my heaven when I’m decorating.

The Belleek bone china is very durable, the thinness is to show off the strength. It's even stronger than stoneware. If you go to a bone chinaware factory in Britain, they will demonstrate by literally banging it on a table! Love your tutorial on Fostoria! I collect Fostoria, Whitehall, & Anchor Hocking Prescut. My grandmothers both had these and it reminds me of them. I use all my pieces and people are always shocked actually use them lol.

Your pieces are lovely. I have collected a lot of glassware over the years. My favorites have been the jewel tones, red/ruby red especially. I started when on my 18th birthday my grandmother gave me her Carnival pitcher and glasses, I still have it. I'm 71 now, no longer collecting, ran out of space and budget. :)

LOVE the silver fruit holders... I had not seen those before but love them.... they are now on my silver list to add... Have always loved the Fostoria American pattern..... but frankly... you had me at Rum Cake! YUUUUM my mom used to make about 25 to 30 of those for holiday gifts and about 50 to 75 German chocolate cakes.... and in the early 70s in Coral Gables, FL I couldn't reach up high enough to help, so I would sit on the counter with my hand in the butter dish licking butter off my fingers...😁 Thanks for sharing this! I inherited my great-aunt's American - not exactly a collection, but a substantial number of pieces. Have added to my stock when I spotted items in thrift stores, and an old suitor's daughter gave me an American ice bucket when he died. I love it all and use it for everyday, starting with juice glasses first thing every morning. I put everything in the dishwasher, and it comes out bright and beautiful each time, no clouding or etching.

Collecting can be great fun. Don’t get too carried away though. Some of your best things didn’t start out to be a collection. Don’t be too quick to buy something that may be overpriced. Keep looking! Look for bargains and study your items. Buy because you love it.

My mother and her twin sister had almost every piece of this pattern called “AMERICANA”! As a little girl of 10 years of age, I kept my mothers’ and Aunts’ collections washed and displayed. My 3 sisters and I split the two collections when each passed away. I cherish every piece and always amazed by the prisms. My daughter loves it as well so all my pieces will be displayed in my daughters home. My sisters are not interested in dishes as most homes are now more informal and display cabinets take up valuable space.

Mother introduced us 3 girls to Fostoria. We also got to go on a tour of the factory in mid 60’s. She got a set of three frosted amber ducks. We each still have one and are treasured items. Mom got the beautiful Fostoria book- it is a real gem. You have some really gorgeous pieces! I love seeing Fostoria anywhere. Those cake plates and that 3 sided dish wow!

I have inherited my mother's collection of American Fostoria, and I have added a few pieces as well! I loved hearing and seeing the differences between Whitehall and American Fostoria. I don't think my own children are very interested in my family's china, crystal, and silver, but I wish they could appreciate and use it instead of just selling it off. I love china and crystal!!!

I feel your pain. I started collecting Fostoria American to give to my niece as a gift. I bought everything I could find at a decent price. Then she informed me that she wasn't interested in it. She prefers using disposable plates and plastic cutlery for "special" occasions. I blame my sister for her abysmal rearing. I still collect it, but now I collect it for me. I thought she'd like it, because I like it. It's cool at any age. Right? I probably have a load of Whitehall too. I don't care. It's all great looking to me. I suspect that when I pass, it'll all go back to Goodwill anyway. Now let's talk china and crystal. American brilliant cut crystal that is. I love it. Waterford, Orrefors works just as well. I'm always looking for Lalique. That would be fantastic. Any color crystal cut to clear, I'm in heaven. Belleek porcelain is spectacular stuff. My collection appears to be about the same size as yours. I always have to snap it up when I see it. I have a set of 6 sherbets with grapevines circling the rims and 24k detail on the bases. I'm not sure if I know 5 other people I trust to eat out of them. Admittedly, they're not as delicate as some of their other pieces. I don't know that I'd want to thrift shop with you. We'd both be vying for the same things. You sure seem to get around. If you're ever in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area, I can give you a heads up on hot spots.👍 ❤from TX!

Granny Pat, you are my new best friend! Someone gave me some Fostoria salad plates and I began adding other pieces. You taught me that the lovely footed bowl I bought was Whitehall!
