Granny Pat , I’m 53 years old and I enjoyed watching you and listening to your stories as you cook it brings back wonderful memories I have of my Grandmamas. Me and one of my Grandmothers were so much alike, we’d have a good time or I’d end up in trouble. But not for long, we’d be laughing before we knew it. But thanks for the cooking lesson and the memories.

I love watching you. I have a very stressful job & am usually an emotional mess by the end of the day, but each night when I get piled up in bed I watch your latest video and you always make my day. This video sure brought back memories of several things from grandpa saving wrappers from camel cigarettes, granny saving green stamps in a book, my other granny putting to much light bread in the dressing, my mom saying the same thing as you concerning the oyster dressing, and last but not least, just how much I miss it all. I forward your videos to my own mom who is now 82 and always says that you are just a pretty woman granny pat.

Granny Pat - Thank you for your Cornbread Dressing Recipe! - I am definitely going to try your way of making dressing. - I am from the South, but Mom and Grandma always made delicious cornbread dressing, but their recipe calls for the dressing mixture to be very, very moist and juicy (even much thinner than cornbread batter) of course, you have to bake it a long time, but when baked, the dressing is very solid, but also very moist. - I am definitely going to try it your way!! Speaking of Dumplings - Another easy Dumpling, besides canned biscuits, is to use plain Flour Tortillas and cut them up. Most people cut them into strips (about the size of a wide noodle x 2" long) but I prefer to cut the tortilla into about 2" squares, then add them to your broth. - They cook up nice and full and make a good dumpling. - Very easy, you might want to try them sometime. GOD BLESS!!

Love seeing your version of cornbread dressing. Appreciated you saying “if you like yours stick with it”. You might like reading how we do ours. MIL was from southern part of Missouri and this was her recipe. We sauté one stick of butter, lots more celery with the onion until soft. We add all our seasoning to this sauté(salt/pepper, lots of poultry seasoning, bit of onion powder. We pre moisten the dried bread cubes with chicken broth and then add crumbled cornbread, adding broth until desired consistency Then add whisked eggs 4-6 for large batch of dressing. We bake ours in deeper bowl type casserole dishes, for 45-50 @350-375. Family likes this dressing as the favorite dish on table. Gotta have lots of leftovers as we eat it cold, heated, on cold turkey sandwiches, or open faced hot turkey sandwiches with potatoes and gravy. Oooh I dawn hardly wait until next week. I am gonna teach my daughter how to make this dressing this year as at 83 do want the family to continue enjoying this great dish. I wish I had spent more time learning my Mom’s unwritten recipes. 💕

Watching the video brings many wonderful memories of my Mother and my childhood. I was absolutely blessed to have had the parents and the family I had. I’m one of 17 children, 9 girls and 8 boys. My mother cooked 3 full meals daily and did so for nearly 50 years. I admit to being biased. My mother made the best cornbread dressing. I was able to enjoy her cooking for 45 years. The meals were not of fancy means. However, the food prepared was absolutely delicious and abundant. If you went hungry, it was your doing. Too be able to sit and have a meal with my parents once again, PRICELESS. Thank you for sharing your experiences and making this video. Best regards Grandma Pat♥️

The first time I tasted Mamas dressing I fell in love with it! She let me watch her as many times as it took for me to get the recipe, cause much like you, she measured by sight and feel. Your recipe is similar but she added sage sausage to it. I am sure yours is as delicious as her.

Our radio was a Philco. It is an ivory color. It may have come from the S&H Green Stamp Store. It has the tubes inside. I still have it. I remember being awakened by the smell of coffee, stumbling to the kitchen to see my dad and sit with him while he sipped from his favorite gray Fiestaware teacup and listened to a farm news report from Amarillo, TX on station KGNC. The reporter went by Cotton John Smith. I stared at that radio like it had a video screen while we sat at the table eating at lunch time. Momma and daddy talked about the news. Us kids were to be "seen and not heard". My mom made her combo cornbread/light bread dressing in a big, white enamel dish pan (LOL, I still have that too). Dressing was the highlight of the meal. Extra portions were baked in all sizes and shapes of Pyrex dishes and stored in the freezer to be served throughout fall to Christmas.

I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate you passing on these things and the little stories you tell along the way like about the Hoosier cabinet and the Kalamazoo cook stove. This is my way of making certain dishes, not necessarily the ‘right way’! People have so many different likes and dislikes. You create your own recipe by experimenting. Take away and add to! That’s how it is done. Very few dishes follow an exact recipe (unless it’s homemade rolls!). Haha

Your recipe looks delicious! It’s a lot like the recipe from my Dad’s side of the family. They taught us how to make it. Except I use butter and put the celery & onion and sauté it. Then add it to everything. I haven’t tried it w/ corn bread yet but I love cornbread and I’m sure it makes it soooo good! I only have a small family of 3. And every year since 2020 I have had to make the whole Thanksgiving dinner by myself! I don’t like it at all.. I miss big Thanksgiving dinner’s with the whole Family. It’s strange because after everyone had to stay at home during the quarantine they never did come back together for our Family Holidays. I guess it would have gradually happened eventually. But it’s kind of lonely. Plus it’s nice for everyone to bring a dish and a desert. I make the same things and mix up a few different deserts. The thing’s I alway’s make are Baked Mac & Cheese, Dressing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes & gravy, and Banana pudding for my main desert. ❤️

Growing up we had a black and white TV that had a metal antenna outside. I don’t ever remember it being on during dinner. My parents were small business owners and after work mom came home, cooked dinner ( it was rare if we ate dinner out ) we ate what she cooked and didn’t whine about wanting something else. We kids were to be seen and not heard, never allowed in adult conversations. Once the dishes were cleaned mom would announce “ the kitchen is closed!” My child always had a home cooked meal too. These days I hardly cook for my self.

This is the first time I’ve seen you!! You remind me so much of my Maw Maw!! I make her cornbread dressing, and, to me, it’s the best..she used cornbread, biscuits and sometimes white bread!!

I love watching you Granny Pat. I’ve never made dressing your way, but it sounds so good!!!! I’m from Cajun Country in Louisiana. But I use my mother’s recipe and use cornbread instead. Also I make rice dressing. My sister makes the dressing from mama’s recipe - her’s tastes better to me. My brother in law doesn’t are for cornbread dressing so I ‘m making him some rice dressing. Hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving. Love to you . Sally

Happy Thanksgiving Granny Pat. This made me think about my Mother’s dressing. Everyone looked forward to her dressing at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was one of her many specialties. I wish I would have paid more attention to her recipes but I’m not a cook. Thank you for the memories. I have another memory of my Grannie’s sage. I don’t know what she did, but it was not good. I always pretended that I loved it though. ❤
