I have a theory that came to mind the other day. What if Lucifer's vulnerability around Chloe is not because he loves her but because he didn't want to frighten her? Her opinion of him is very important to him. He has said it more than once by the end of season 4 that "that's all that matters." Before she shot him in 1x04 he asked her if she was afraid of him. "Do I scare you?" She looks at him and says, "No." When she caught a glimpse of his face later, she got scared. Even though he told her to shoot him to show he is the devil, deep down he didn't want her to fear him so he made himself bleed. I don't think he was in love with her yet, but he really didn't want to scare her away. What happens after she learns the truth if she is not afraid of him?
